It has been far too long since I have posted pictures of Allison and Parker's babies, and I apologize. I will also admit that I definitely started slowing down on the picture taking once they fledged. Chasing 3 parrotlets around the house while trying to feed them was enough of a chore, without trying to take pictures at the same time. Technically, there were 5 babies, but only 3 were fledging that point. Zombie is just now starting to fly, which is thrilling to me because I wasn't sure if she was ever going to be able to. No one was sure what lasting effects the zinc poisoning was going to have on her. She is also almost weaned. She seems to be having a real hard time with the pellets, so the vet suggested I try weaning her onto a decent seed mix to start, then slowly work on converting her over to pellets after she is fully weaned if she is willing to eat seed, since she would eat millet just fine, but she can't live on just that forever. And I would prefer not to hand feed her forever either, although I would have if it would have been necessary.

Then sadly I lost one of the little blue girls just before they started to wean. It was a freak accident, and I'm not sure it could have been prevented other than not letting the babies go into a cage until after they are weaned, and that just isn't really practically for them developmentally. Right after I finished feeding them, she was climbing up the side of the cage and fell, but landed in a way that forced the formula back out of her crop and she aspirated. I felt horrible, but like I said, other than completely restricting their movements, I don't know what I could have done to prevent it.

Enough sadness, time for pictures. I will post the pictures of the 3 babies that are all grown up now, and then little Zombie in a reply from my phone, because photobucket still does not want to work on my computer, and I still haven't figured out why. I might do 4 separate ones, just to separate each baby, I don't know, depends on how many pictures I find on my phone, but the more the better, right?

Here is number one, the green. This is my oldest girl. (Except for Zombie, who is technically the oldest out if all of them). Number three is the blue. She is the youngest girl. I think her blue is so pretty.

Then number four was the only boy out of the whole clutch. His colors are just stunning. He is a green, but for those of you not familiar with parrotlets, most are sexually dimorphic, meaning you can visually tell males and females apart. Males usually have vibrant blue rumps and almost always have vibrant blue on their flights.

And of course little Zombie. She still looks likes something a cat dragged in. Very literally. She has mostly feathered in, although they are very poor quality and she has some missing spots. The vet thinks that it is mostly due to get being exposed to the zinc as her feathers were developing, and that there is a good chance she'll look like a normal bird once she goes through her first moult. She is a sweet little thing, and just adores people.
