Would yall recommend clip on the side of the cage brooder lights?I know like actual brooder boxes and all are better but their also very expensive.

They work just fine! Or you can get those clip on shop light looking thing at your local hardware store. Use a 60w bulb, it works fine! You just have to monitor your temperature!!!!

What would you get to monitor the temp of that?

Being unfamiliar with your setup i'd suggest several different thermometers in different places,see what works best for you and go with that.Not having a brooder box of some type , drafts might be an issue you need to be aware of.

Just place a good thermometer with in the tank. Do watch for draft like it was mentioned! I would not do this kind of setup for a very young baby though! Depends on how old the baby is!

What is a good setup for a baby?I don't have any babies right noe but i'm just trying to learn all there is about taking care of baby birds because I want to breed either lovebirds for cockatiels in the neat future.I just don't want to spend $100 and more on those breeder boxes and all.

I'm not sure if you meant breeder or brooder boxes, I make all my own breeder boxes and for cockatiels they might cost me 10 bucks to make. I do have a brooder but rarely use it,i leave my chicks with their parents until age 3 wks.At that age you could keep them in a plastic container or some thing similar ,you need to be able to keep them warm,but it's not as crucial as incubating eggs and dealing with day old chicks.There's lots of good info out there and here from people like Mikeytn and myself,i'm sure both of us would be glad to offer advice if this is something you really want to pursue. Keep researching and ask if you need help.I'm not that great of a typist and try to keep my responses short and sweet. PM me if you want my # and we'll talk.

I meant brooder boxes.Breeder boxes are around $15 in the pet store here and i'm not much of a talker on the phone lol

well that's OK , if you have questions ask away and i'll do my best . I don't think you really need a brooder and i only have one for emergencies, if your just getting started ,try leaving your chicks with the parents until they're old enough for you to feel comfortable enough to pull.

Like what henpecked have said already, you can wait until older. But personally I keep a brooder going. Get a 10g glass aquarium and use the clip on light kit I suggested. Cover one side with a towel to prevent heat loss and draft.

and what brand of thermometers do yall recommend for testing the heat and also for testing the formula.and where do you buy syringes and those special curved ones for newborn birds?Ive looked at pur petstore before when i took care of my first baby bird a gew months ago and all I found was this huge one.I had to get my sister to bring me home one from her vet that was alot smaller.

Thermometer for testing formula just use a food grade thermometer. I use a digital thermometer from my local petshop to test room temp. That clamp on light is what im talking about. But you can find similar clamp light at your local hardware store without waiting.
