Any Linnie owners or breeders out here?

(I guess I post this here since they're called Lineolated "Parakeets" ??)

As we all know on this forum bird ownership quickly becomes addicting lol.
I'm planning for a few years down the line to get a pair or two of Lineolated Parakeets. Anyone know a breeder in New Jersey or Florida I could get them from? One who has a website I can check out & stuff like that??

I wanna do my (extensive) research like I did before I got my GCC's. I started looking into them a year or more before I ever got Loqui so I'll probably in a year or two be ready to buy.

The little buggers look sooo cute & from what I've read so far seem to be even better behaved than even budgies as a "first time owner" type of bird. & did I mention they're cute??? lol

Also if there are any Linnie owners on this forum can you pleeeaase pretty please tell me about life with your Linnie? Maybe share some pictures ??

Now please excuse me while I overdose on Linnie related youtube videos ! lol

-Mel, Loqui, & Lilo/a !

Re: Any Linnie owners or breeders out here?

I know a woman that breeds linnies here in pa, she has very nice, healthy birds and many colors. I know it's not jersey, but that's not too far from here depending on what part you're from, if you'd like her info let me know and I can PM you her info.

my cat died at 3 years old due to invasive kideny cancer. he was highly anemic and his kidneys and blood work were off the charts, the vet said it was the worst he's ever seen. we had to put him down that day. up untill then, he showed no sings of illness that we could recognize, however he was a ticking time bomb and only the vet could see it. we thought he was just muscular, but it was just his bulging kideneys. animals hide illness! he only showed signs the day before he died, before this, he seemed completely normal, healthy, and his usual self. his name was maxie and he was my best friend, because we thought he was healthy we didnt take him for check-ups but had we cought it earlier he might have had a chance. we learned from this, we should have paid attention, take ALL your pets for check-ups so they can be helped early on before its too late.

Re: Any Linnie owners or breeders out here?

Linnie owner in Pennsylvania, reporting in!

I know of a couple breeders in PA & I am pretty sure there are also breeders in NJ. In fact, I am sure of it. If you are doing Linnie research, you might want to join the Linnie yahoo group and also become a member at the Linnie forum, where there are lots of owners & also some breeders:

Lineolated Parakeet Forum - Linnie Forum Community

Below are my two, which came with the double flight cage I bought for my budgies:

At the moment, they each have 1/2 of the divided cage.

They are great, quiet little birds to have around. And while I ended up with a middle-aged pair of retired breeders, they are pretty attentive & Pete (the green one) has learned a few words. He has a voice like a robot - it is very cute.

P.S. - I occasionally see them come up for adoption on craigslist, so keep an eye out. Also Google hookbills for sale - I am pretty sure I've seen a NJ Linnie breeder advertise there.

Congratulations!

They are VERY easy to live with.

Very cute.

Very worthwhile!

I always keep my eye out for one who might need a new home . . . easier to say I rescued them than, "Honey . . . guess what I bought?"

Re: Any Linnie owners or breeders out here?

I have never seen them on Craigslist locally. I actually had never even heard of them till I emailed a local breeder about a parrotlet and she told me about linnies. After researching them I totally fell in love with them and those big eyes! Well after meeting the babies I decided to bring home two instead of the one I had planned on. I'm always watching out on craigslist though but they are pretty rare around here.

Re: Any Linnie owners or breeders out here?

I have to say i love love love the green linnies. And theblues too. I've decided I'll name one Coby if I end up with a cobalt and Kiwi after my first green parakeet if I end up with a green.

Sorry I haven't been around for a while to reply to this (a week off from classes and I slack off on everything lol) I'm glad to hear there are breeders near me. I had to ship my GCC in from NC I didn't wanna ship again. I'll check out that yahoo group as well since there isn't nearly as much info easily available on linnies as there are on green cheeks. They really aren't as popular as they should be.

If when the time comes to buy I'm in FL (planning to move from Jersey in a yr or so) I'm assuming it would be easy to find a breeder there too right? Easier than here?

Gah idk why i do this to myself. I'm all excited for something that's so far off from now..it's like self torture lol
