okay, I know this is a really dumb question, and it shouldn't really matter, but I'm really curious. Which has a better talking ability, a linnie or budgie/parakeet?

Both birds have the ability to talk. The record for most words goes to a budgie. They are very talented.

yeah, I just read that a budgie holds the record, curious as to how a linnie would compare, or do they just pick up a few words/sounds?

Both my Linnies talk up a storm and they are only 6 months. Plus Linnie have lots of big bird personality. They eat with their feet, hang upside down and sleep lying down. They walk toe over toe so they kind of waddle:) Also very easy going and forgiving little birds.

From little to big - currently 6 Linnies; 2 Budgies; 1 BHP; 2 CAGs; 2 Zons; 1 GWM. Formerly in the flock: 1 LSC2 [fostered/rehomed] RIP: 1 budgie 1 WCP & 1 sweet Pan Am
In budgies, the males are the good talkers & their vocabularies can be quite large. Some speak quickly & in high-pitched voices, so the humans don't recognize the words & don't reward the speech, which sometimes disappears. Female budgies are rarely good talkers.

In Linnies, both males & females can talk. They have a more limited vocabulary, but the ones who speak, often speak a lot.

Both species have personalities much bigger than their physical size.

My linnies are quieter than my budgies.

Both are very entertaining companions.

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
Both are such wonderful little birds. We had a linnie she sadly passed a couple of months ago and we are still so upset over it. I think that a linnie is a quieter bird with of the characteristics of a much larger parrot. Ours whistled lots and was working on several words. Budgies do hold the record for most words spoken however I think that a linnie may be a bit easier to understand once they start speaking.
