I raise american and english budgies and I'm still always blown away by the personality differences between them. The english are calmer, more laid back and like to be petted more. The americans are attention seeking little nuts! Americans remind me of those kids you see that are always yelling, "hey mom! Look at me! Look at me!Look what I can do!" while the English are usually just content to snuggle up on your shoulder or lap and take a nap.

Squirrel-GCC (suspected male), Alice- female cockatiel, Beattle- male lineolated parakeet, No name yet- female lineolated parakeet Dingo- male American budgie, Darwin- male English Budgie

Maybe mine didn't get the memo. He's louder then any bird I have. Well, the linnie, tiel, and GCC can outdo him in volume if they get going, but his screeches are frequent and grating to the ears. Out of all my birds, his noise is the only one that bothers me.
He's SLIGHTLY more laid back then my American, but in no way is he calm! Pesky thing. I love him, but there's also some love-hate dynamics there. He's mostly around to be Dingo's buddy. I put up with him.

"Memo" - great one, thanks for the smile. Personalities vary quite a bit; I think other birds, even different species, exert a strong influence. I've seen a number of species "break the mold" when housed near others - parrots, birds of paradise, cranes (zoos) all seem to do what it takes to be heard and communicate. Best regards, enjoy, Frank

Lol. Probably true, although all my birds (other budgie included) will be quietly eating or playing and Darwin is sitting on a perch having a good ol' time doing the budgie ACCK ACCCK ACK ACK ACK ACCCCK ACCCK ACCCK . It's then I threaten to tape his beak shut, but he just glares at me under those little eyebrows. I swear, if it weren't for his cere and the fact he's trying to mate with everything, I'd peg him for female. He tried to mount my GCC! I told him it wouldn't go well, but he didn't listen. Squirrel was displeased. I think he needs a girlie, but I'm not adding another EB at this point.
