I have been researching smaller birds and their common personality traits. I came across the linnies and fell in love! I was considering a GCC but then I noticed that generally the linnies sit still longer and tend to be less active. Can anyone give me their opinions on this? Also I can't find any linnie breeders in my area and need some referrals pls!

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
Linnies are great little birds! They have big parrot personalities in tiny bodies! Very cute, sweet, funny & many learn to speak! My daughter got a linnie for her 14th birthday, little Luna. Luna was a very sweet bird and unfortunatley passed away very unexpectedly. Not sure what happened, we were so devastated. She was a very sweet little bird. Not to put something so sad on this thread it's just that we thought the world of this little bird and I would highly reccomend them to anyone!

Are there any breeders in your area? I will be in your area before the end of the year visiting family in the scary small village of Verona.

From little to big - currently 6 Linnies; 2 Budgies; 1 BHP; 2 CAGs; 2 Zons; 1 GWM. Formerly in the flock: 1 LSC2 [fostered/rehomed] RIP: 1 budgie 1 WCP & 1 sweet Pan Am
Two places you can connect with other Linnie folks:

First, the Linnie forum (which has a buying/selling forum):

Lineolated Parakeet Forum - Linnie Forum Community

Second, go to the yahoo groups & search for lineolated parakeets - because there is a yahoo group for them & it has some breeders & a lot of advice.

Best of luck!

The linnie forum is an awesome resource- I love it over there! Linnies do sit still longer then GCC's- well, some times. They are less clowns, but are still entertaining. Mine isn't a huge toy fan, but he has some he likes. They are deliberate in everything they do. Beattle, my linnie, picks his days and times to hang out with me, and sometimes he's social and other times he's not. If you had a single linnie (mine is the only linnie, but one of 5 birds), then they would want more of your time. Linnies can be hand shy- this seems to be species trait that can't be trained out. You either have one that likes hands or one that doesn't. Beattle is just fine with hands, in fact likes to cuddle in them, but others will tolerate them only for step-up, or sometimes not even that. I wouldn't let that deter you unless you 100% want a bird to wrestle with your hands or something. If you are worried about that in a linnie, make sure to let the breeder know what kind of personality you are looking for.

There are some amazing breeders on the linnie forum. They will ship- I belive Delta is at $150 right now.
PatsB (Pat)- has linnies available now. I am getting a green hen from her later in Oct. I am told her chicks are wonderful and from experience she is great to work with. Located in FL
PeggyB (Peggy)- I don't think has any babies currently, but does from time to time and is a wealth of information. Beattle came through her, though she didn't breed him. Located in CA.
Birds4Alice (Alice)- has babies available at the moment and is helpful when requesting information. Located in Chicago.

All these breeders are well known to the forum and members own and love their chicks. Good luck!

Thank you Otterkin, I did read Pat's post about having available birds. I joined the forum over there so I can keep tabs and possibly find a breeder closer so I don't have to have the poor baby shipped.

They ship quite well, most come out happy and ready to cuddle! It's really a matter of if you can afford it. I shipped with 2 other people, so was able to split it. Beattle was shipped, no problems!
