wild budgie flock?

I have been day dreaming with Lori about starting my own wild budgie flock.
The plan that is forming involves me getting 4 pair of breeding budgies and keep them caged as I do now. Put up 15 to 20 budgie breeding boxes under my back verandah up out of the way. Then as my 4 breeders pump out the babies, I take them and re-cage them and Felix and I then hand tame them over the next few weeks. Then the cool part starts. when I have 20 or so young hand tame budgies I will release them to the boxes and keep lots of feed and water on hand for them and hope they decide to stay. I keep doing this till I have released 50 or so birds.
Looking for flaws in my plan,...any help?

Well, just what you're saying by one simple sentence """"Then as my 4 breeders pump out the babies,"""" and tells me that you haven't looked at all the deep aspects of parrot breeding and pet bird ownership as opposed to breeding bird ownership. What you suggest is cruel. Breeding any type birds who you hope will pump out babies usually will become very weak, create thin shelled and infertile eggs and most importantly, they die quickly. ESPECIALLY, budgies, canaries and finches.
You'll never be able to hand tame that many birds unless each bird is kept separately and if that happens and the hand tamed birds are put back with other hand tamed birds, the hand taming goes out the window.
Next---Inbreeding. All of these birds will mate with each other even though they're related which will cause deformed chicks who will have very weak internal organs.
Next---Weather----budgies can't handle different weather conditions because they've already been recreated with certain faults that they didn't have when they were feral.
Next---Diet---budgies and all other parrots need special diets for breeding and they also need special foods to feed chicks. AND you would have to master the art of hand feeding which is not something that can be learned overnight.
Next---Fighting---when mating goes on, birds don't want interference with other birds nor their chicks and they attack each other.
Next---Egg destruction---many of the very small breeds of birds will periodically eat the eggs if their nutritional levels aren't extremely high.

There's so many other things that can be said here about what you're daydreaming about but I'll keep it simple---leave it as a daydream because if you don't you'll create a nightmare for birds.

Your concern is valid, and your points I would stand by 200% ... but, you really have to understand Red Balloon in order to understand this post ...

Red's sense of humor was/has been very dry and drol over the years, and when he says "pump out babies" he means as nature intended them too ...

As bad as he sounds, there isn't anyone on this forum that cares more about his parrots, and the conservation of all parrots than Red ....

He's just one of those guys who has the greatest heart that you will ever meet, but he doesn't want you to know that (nor will he ever admit it either) ...

P.S. Red is from Australia where budgies flock naturally anyway ...

Well said Tex,

I also think you were quite right in all your concerns JB, but the delivery just rubbed me the wrong way, though that is only because I've interacted with Red on here before. As Tex elaborated he cares more for his flock than anyone I've heard of.

Though RB did ask people to look for flaws in his plan. So now he's got some to consider.

Ok, I'll give my point of view here. I'll start off on a positive note. """He's just one of those guys who has the greatest heart that you will ever meet, but he doesn't want you to know that (nor will he ever admit it either) ""
I'm very glad to hear that RB deeply cares about his birds and would do no harm to them. What's sad is that he doesn't want anyone to know that. He should proud about that and more than likely is proud of that. It's a wonderful attribute when people like that exist.

"""He's just one of those guys who has the greatest heart that you will ever meet, but he doesn't want you to know that (nor will he ever admit it either) ""

If there's one thing that people need to see it's those types of people on a board , especially new people.

Recently, PMs and EMs have been sent out asking people to check out this board, see what it's like. Many people will eventually do that. Amongst those people, there will be novices and experienced bird owners.

I'm gonna assume that these new people aren't required to look back in a board's history in order to find who has what type of personality or sense of humor that any particular person has before responding to a post. Some new people will see certain posts, not see the person's sense of humor in it and will reply in threads. Some novices may see something that is very appealing and actually try it and many experienced people will see the serious potential problems that may happen.

After dealing with medium to large sized parrots for over 20 yrs and dealing with tiny birds for 10 yrs before that, I've seen hundreds of people do things which only affect birds in a negative way. I've seen other people do things in a constructive way after being told that some items that have been written are the wrong things that exist in the world of birds.

AND as far as breeding---well, I'm a breeder of CAGs. I have 3 pet greys and I have 3 pairs of breeder greys which aren't pets. I also have 2 quakers who make sure that the pet greys behave themselves.
I don't live in Europe. I live in the US and throughout the years I've seen poor quality parrots and horrible situations created and I've seen people and those birds suffer after finally going home. Importation was a terrible practice here in the US and it was finally abolished in 1992.

Someone here said that what I said rubbed him/her the wrong way. Well, other things that are said can be misconstrued as being irresponsible and that may rub others like me the wrong way especially if I don't know the person and what's said will send out red flags and I feel that it's important to say something to others that may read it..

So, if bluntness is not the way to go here, I'll simply not post here because I'm a blunt type of person who feels it necessary to be just that way. It may not be accepted so well but I can walk away knowing that I posted something constructive.
