hi folks,

i got a cute male zebra finch today who is 2 months old.I tried putting him with my 2 budgies in same cage.initially the budgies showed territorial aggression but later they calmed themselves down and sat on same perch with the finch.

i want to know whether the finch can adjust with the budgies in the same cage or should i get a another finch to company him in the same cage with the budgies?(because i dont want to keep 2 separate cages for budgies and finches)

regards,
nisha:whiteblue:

No offence but you need two cages. you should not keep hookbills with finches. The finches are not able to protect themselves and their diet is not the same. The Budgies are very likely to kill the finch or at least seriously hurt him:mad::)

I agree, you really need two cages. If you aren't willing to have two cages you'll need to find someone who I'll give one of he species a good home.

You are taking a HUUUUUUGE risk by having these two types of species in the same cage. It might have been a wiser choice to get another budgie instead of a finch. The budgies could seriously injure your finch.

Even though it is nice to see the birds "enjoying" the sight of one another, they definitely do need separate cages. Even if the budgies by chance do not hurt the finch, i don't think any of them would be most at ease and happy in the same cage like this. It would be a stressful situation for them.
However, after giving them their own cages, it is nice having them all in a room where they can enjoy each other's presence. My canary and my conure both like to see each other but have never been close enough for contact.

IF the cage is big enough, like a flight cage, then it is actually FINE to keep them together. I keep my parakeets with finches and Cockatiels for YEARS. Their diets are practically the same so I don't know why someone would think they're different? Right now in my flight cage I keep a pair of Zebra, pair of Canaries, 2 Parakeets, 4 Cockatiels, and Dixie the Cockatoo who actually likes companies of other birds. The ones people should worry about are birds such as Lovebirds!

Mickey Tn . I am surprised they all get along. How big a flight cage are you talking about that you can keep all those species together with no bloodshed?:)
