Alexandrine Parrot Questions

Hey guys iam new here

I have a Alexandrine parrot that i bought from a pet shop a year ago. It has no black ring round its neck so iam guess thats its female otherwise the black ring would have come up by now, how long does it normally take for it to develope if they are male.

My parrot is not in a cage i made it a perch/home that i build from an old tree trunk that forks out. I was thinking of getting another parrot so they can keep each other company. How do these guys normally react with new commers, is it better to get one the opposite sex or the same. Will they loose their 'tameness' if i introduce another bird?

Thanks heaps - Daz

Re: Alexandrine Parrot Questions

Hi, Daz, I'm new here, too, but I have an Alexandrine as well. I can't offer much advice or experience, but my bird came from a home that had several and he seemed to get a long with the other fine.

We're also getting another bird in a few weeks and have been talking to the breeder about how to introduce them. She told us that, although the 2 species have different personalities, they should be able to co-habitate together. She mostly breeds macaws now but her first breeders were Alexandrines, so she has experience with both.

If you haven't gotten your 2nd bird yet, I'll be sure to let you know how our introduction goes.
