I have a female lutino cockateil, and a male jendaya conure who are mates, and love each other very much. The male conure has been witnessed 'breeding' the female cockateil. As in 'the act' of copulation. Will there be any chance of offspring from the 2 species,or will the eggs be sterile???? Just so you know, this is not an intentional thing to have these 2 have offspring. If its is possible. They were initially pair as cage buddies, because I did not feel they could reproduce. Now after seeing copulation,I am not sure if this is the case.
Can someone please offer me some insight as if they can produce actual chicks or will they just be sterile eggs??
If they can produce offspring, what are the implications/possible issues with this mixture, and should I allow them to raise any babies?
However, if by some miracle she does, you need to post the results .
Yes it would be a miracle. Call the media and inform the public as everything we know about reproductive biology would have to be tossed out.
Completely impossible.
Thanks guys.I was not sure,as there are some cross-species bird hybrids out there, and I did not want to have any conure/teil hybrids.I didn't even think my conure would attempt to breed something he couldn't have offspring to.So when he did actually mount the cockateil and breed her,I was a bit off took by it.Glad to know they are just ''having fun'' and not gonna have ''little baby birdletts'' flying around.Sweety you are SUCH a cassa nova...lol.
