Just thought I'd share a few photos of my Budgie Twigs :) I had never had a Budgie before, and I admit he was an impulse buy at a pet store. I thought he had the prettiest colors. I hope the photos show this, but he is yellow and BLUE (not green). Recessive pied. :)

You'll have to excuse Pix (white). He just wasn't up to taking a good picture last night.

Okay... I attached 3 separately and only one came out. Can a mod please fix so it's not upside down?

Oh well... I tried. :31:

Twigs is gorgeous! He must be a par-blue mutation (not green, not blue, but inbetween!)

Look at that golden face!!!! :D

Wow! What a wonderful color combo. That's what I like about parakeets: they come in so many colors! They are really enjoyable to have around, too!

Thanks! In the pic, he LOOKS like what they call par blue. He actually is much more turquoise blue in person. Much more blue than green but the iPhone camera doesn't give the best colors:( the iPad camera is worse. I can't use my digital camera unless I wait until I get to a computer. Sometimes I say ugh to technology.

Anyway - golden face type 2, recessive pied, cobalt :)

I didn't see cobalt, but other than that, that's what mutation he appeared to be to me! :)

Goldenface is a type of par-blue mutation in budgies.

I just realized something else... Since Twigs is goldenface type "2" the type 2 makes the face color spill down into the body color going over the blue. I used to think maybe sky blue instead of cobalt, but others online just like him were said to be cobalt and sky blue is much lighter.

I just love to look at him. Noisy little bugger though! He is very active and skittish. He's just now after a year accepting that I'm not going to kill and eat him, and will finally step up for me. Pix is so the opposite. He came more calm and friendly all along.

That's indeed correct!

I think it can be difficult to determine some mutations when other mutations are mutating the other colors!

Cobalt would imply he is a goldenface type 2, recessive pied with 1 dark factor. If he's not a cobalt, then he may simply be a goldenface type 2 recessive pied budgie. There's not really any reason to say he's blue unless he was also blue.

I mean, if he were paired with a blue hen, would he throw all goldenface offspring? (thus indicating he is a goldenface with two genes) or would he throw both goldenface and blue offspring? (indicating he's got 1 gene for goldenface and 1 gene for blue)

Not that it matters, but just something interesting to think about! :)

I'm glad I don't breed :52: That's a lot to keep track of. Of course commercial budgie breeders probably just breed all sorts of colors at random and produce all sorts of crazy mutations. I've seen some REALLY unusual mutations at Petsmart before. Not at Petco, but Petsmart has some sometimes that really different and you can tell they're several mutations in one. They so tempt me. I have to tear myself away and just say NO!!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR DOING THE PHOTO JEN :)

Haha! I know what you mean!

Someday I want to have an aviary of purple budgies, but I might need another one just for 'rainbow budgies'! ;)

He's beautiful. Reminds me of my skitzo except she has a lot of white blobs on her where he is more solid :) So pretty!

His tail feathers and head feathers make me question if he is! He kind of has the look of an opaline.

What does his back look like?

Trust me... I'd love if he was an Opaline! His back part is much less attractive and colorful than opaline markings. :( Pied with just the normal blackish brown.

I used to have a pretty little blue/violet dominant pied hen that was also opaline. Twigs markings remind me of hers... especially in his tail feathers! So even if you can't tell from the back, you might be able to tell from the tail feathers!

For comparison, a normal violet(?) blue budgies tail feathers.
