Kind of an ackward situation...but I had to ask.

Should I be worried if Pineapple consumed a small drop of Benzoyl peroxide acne treatment? He was 'preening' my face, and I had a small drop of it on my face; he had to pick it off. It is 2.0% Benzoyl peroxide, and a very small amount...but I'm still very scared for him!

I just want to know if he'll be alright...

Sorry, it's actually Salicylic acid 2.0%. But I'm still worried.

Damn what an awkward situation.....
I would honestly be scared as well.
Have you any idea if Pineapple did take some, how much in the beak?
What time did this occur, time is important?
Some might say I am jumping the gun BUT
I know that if it happened to Mishka, I would certainly take her to the vet.
Rather let them check Pineapple out, for peace of mind.
Rather be safe than sorry.
Good luck

Mom isn't going to be happy about this, we have a baby asleep here at home so we shouldn't leave. Oh dear... I don't know if we can. I'll talk to her right this second.

It might be nothing to worry about, as I mentioned before, rather safe than sorry.
Hope you come right !!!!!!!
Keep us updated.

Okay, here's what Mom says: "If he's going to have some sort of reaction, it will happen quickly. Then I would say take him to the vet. However, I don't think they can really do much for him other than look at him; you can't pump a bird's stomach or induce vomiting. Like a human baby, you would wait it out first to see if it is serious."

And Dad: "Salicylic acid is not terribly toxic as far as I know, unlike lead for example. I wouldn't worry about it too much, most likely what will happen is he gets diarrhea for awhile. Just wait it out, and supply plenty of fresh water and vegetables rich in water."

Personally, I am with Antoinette. He is my baby and I want to be safe rather than sorry. I'd feel better if we went to the vet immediately, but I do agree with Mom that the vet can't do much for him. I am feeding him Iceberg lettuce, fresh water and the like. I don't know what else to do at the moment.

I agree, if he's going to have some sort of reaction, it would have happened quickly.
Carry on with the water and veggies, great advise.
Keep an eye on him, sure all is going to be just fine.
A suggestion, if something similar occurs again, try take an ear bud, to remove it from the beak. I once used an ear bud, to remove a piece of carrot that was stuck in Mishka's beak.
Hoping it's all okay.

He just made his first poo, and I can't find it. I will wait for the next one and see if it looks alright.

He's acting himself right now (using me as a jungle gym and playing with my hair), so that's nice to see.

Thank you SB! That will come in handy if this really does turn out badly.

And antoinette, thank you for your support and input. It is much appreciated!

Okay, he had his poo just now. Consistency is normal, but color is slightly tinged more brown than usual. Not much though, just a shade.

Glad he is being himself, all sound good.
Keep the telephone number SB gave you, in a safe place.
Glad for both of you !!!!!!

Good to hear Pineapple is OK. I don't mean to sound negative all the time but I'd still ring the number SB gave you or even the vet and just make sure it's not something that may effect Pineapple later... the vet should be able to let you know without trecking in and paying for a consult. Heavy metal poisoning isn't obvious straight away and treating toxicity is always better when done early. I'm sure it's nothing though and I'm being too cautious but I'm with Antoinette, best to be safe

Hi PQ, hope the fella is ok? I dont have any advice to add but its a relief to know that your mom has said that if it gets bad you can go to the vet...I am no vet but if something was to happen it would be within the first hour and the fact that he is pooing ok means that its working its way out of the system...keep us posted!

Mel, I stand corrected, didnt know metal took longer...guess its different with horses...I agree with both SB and Mel - give that number a call. Hey Ant, do we have a number for poisons in animals in SA? Wish we had seminars here for parrot owners, that would be the amazing!!!!

Sorry Ecclipse I probably should rephrase the way I said that.

Effects on the body are quick but sometimes not obvious depending on how much was ingested. They take effect on a cellular level interfering with organs and immune function, sometimes signs of illness can be very quick or it can take months.

I'd say give the line a ring, ask them what they think and then decide on what to do. Surely because of budgie's tiny bodies and fast metabolism the effects would be fairly fast? I'm no expert but that's just my thoughts.

Hope Pineapple is doing well. x

We can't be too cautious with our feathered friends. I used that phone number once when my cat ate my vitamins sitting on the counter for me to swallow. They reassured me it would not be a problem. Everyone that has animals should have this number posted. I do not know if it would be good in SA. You could only try.

One way to prevent such a thing from ever happening again is not to put that junk on your face. Food is one of the best medicines there is for any condition. If you just starting eating lots of fruits and vegetables, drinks lots of water, and eating cold water fish such as tuna and salmon I bet you would have no problem with acne and will feel alot better to boot.

Lol, now everybody knows I battle with acne :11:. Thank you for the tips WS, I already eat a good diet rich with important fruits and veggies. I read that blueberries and spinach are some of the 'important' ones.

Update, Pineapple is 100% okay (as far as I can tell). I am so relieved. He is eating okay, sleeping on schedule, and the like. :)
