Many of you know I have been working with some budgies I rescued from a hell-hole of poop and inbreeding. We lost two of the chicks and three adults most likely to aspergilosis, and all the remaining adults have new homes except one (I kept two! Stay tuned for pics of Trooper and Molle!). One had a home lined up that knew she wasn't tame, but upon coming and seeing her decided not to take her - because she isn't tame :p

As for the babies I have been playing ring-around-the-rosie with a family who keeps having "car trouble" and other issues for days and days, and finally tonight when asked directly backed out, leaving me with two babies I reserved and didnt send home with another family, because these people insisted they wanted them. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they didn't go home with these people, I am just frustrated. When someone comes to me asking about baby birds and INSISTING they want to love them forever... well, yeah. frustrating.

On another note, Cache, one of my GCCs, has become my little star :) She is apparently much more comfortable with children than adults - I have had no fewer than 5 children ask mommy or daddy if they could keep her this week. Sorry kids, this sweetheart is all mine!

That's frustrating. :(I'm sorry. People are such flakes. Raven's breeder and some others don't even like to keep waiting lists because people are such flakes.

"Car trouble" haha. Why can't people just say they changed their mind? There's a nice way to say it, but I think some people would rather make up lies and excuses because they don't know how to be direct but polite. Good luck finding good homes for the remaining ones.

Cache sounds like a real sweetheart GCC :)

Exactly! But they would rather come up with multiple excuses each day. I guess there is an off chance that they really ARE having a hard week, in which case they don't need to bring my babies home right now anyway. It is also frustrating because they requested these two specifically, so yesterday when a different family came over and wanted these two, I sent them home instead with the two I had considered keeping. Now of course they are super attached to those two. Not that I needed to keep 2 more babies :p Whatever. Part of the process.

Ugh. I do feel your frustration! That's too bad. You just have to tell yourself it wasn't meant to be that you kept them. Like you say, it's part of the process, but still it's so irritating.

Well this night has taken a surprising turn - the lady who took the two I thought about keeping wants to last two as well. Apparently in a family of 4 there are not enough birds for the humans to get enough attention ;) The little babies are in high demand in their house! She just sent me a bunch of sweet pictures :)

It did indeed :) now I feel slightly silly for getting so irritated. The mom of the house has had birds before, but the dad and kids have not - I thought they were going to die in my bird room from joy overload. They kept asking how much every single bird was, even though the only birds I have available are the rescues. It was so cute. And the little boys with their little hands holding the little birds...and the dad looking JUST LIKE THEM... yeah, I am happy now :) Now I only need to find a home for Angel, but we will tame her first. My husband I think might fall in love with her before we find her somewhere new to live.

It's frustrating indeed! :( But the good side is that these are budgies - imagine if they were macaws! :D I'm sure you'll find good homes for them. I got my two budgie babies (for free!!) when someone returned them to the owner right before I came for the lovebird, and I'm so happy with them. Could you possibly post on some websites like craigslist?

The last of the babies are home tonight with their new owners. I am keeping two of the adults (Molle and Trooper) and have only one adult left to rehome, Angel. I think we will tame Angel before actively trying to find her a home :) Craigslist here is pretty scary, and budgies are often given away for free there. I literally saw an add for 200 lovebirds.

I saw the same add too..and recently a "buy both cages get the bird free!" one.
I can't wait for her to find a new home! Are you thinking about rehoming her through one of the Parrot Club?

Oh I see… 200 lovebirds??? OMG!! Never saw that in Chicago area. :) We have a pretty decent CL here - I got most of my birds and some very good cages from there.

No, I think we may end up keeping her, and even if not I will find someone personally for her. There are two parrot clubs here, one that I will have nothing to do with for personal reasons and another that I have not yet gotten to know, though I know several of the members and one of the co-founders, and have technically joined. Honestly though, we may end up keeping her, my husband has taken a fancy to her - he is working with her daily and is making quite the progress.

After I've been raising for years, I give people one chance, they don't make it they missed out and I don't look back. That's how I deal with flakes as they don't make good parronts anyways. One family irritated me so bad I wouldn't let them have any of my babies. I had to ask the daughter to please don't pet the bird or grab the bird that way I dunno how many times. They're NOT toys......I was only being nice because they were a friend of a friend's. My friend apologized to me after I told them what happened and no way I will ever allow them to come back. They were some rich snobs, her daughters were in the national TV series that was filmed locally.

The funny thing was that the lady who took them in the end had warned me that this person would flake on me, but I defended her because she had "good reasons." And then her reasons turned into excuses.
