Riley-white faced grey cockatiel (hatch date 6-28-2014) RIP Halloween-pied cockatiel
So today Riley has flown more than she ever has and now shes worn out and currently grinding her beak and trying to fall sleep on me. Today she flew about 30-40ft which is a huge jump from her 5-6ft she normally flys I am wondering if thats why she is so tired I would assume flying takes up a lot of energy. On a side note theres some evidence she may be a he. Some of her new tail feathers have no bars. I don't care either way and actually would prefer her to be a male as then there's no chance of egg binding or any other egg laying problems. I guess we will know for sure when she has her first molt.

When my eclectus' initial clip grew out he started experimenting with flying. Sometimes after he'd fly a distance he'd breathe hard. Definitely tired him out.

He's a lot more conditioned for it now, since he loves to fly around like a nutso. I don't much notice it making him extra sleepy these days.

Thats what I'm thinking once she's used to flying around she won't be so tired.

Think about it this way. If some dude sat on a stick all day, and just ate and talked, could he run a marathon on a whim? ^^ I bet your tiel is pretty sore using all those new muscles!! :D

Excellent exorcise! Keep up the good work!
