I came home tonight to find bloody mess. He was attacked by other birds so I moved him solitary so he can heal after they attacked his foot. He chewed it off completely today while we were out for my sister's wedding. I've witnessed it long ago and I was not too happy to come home to that. It was devestating to see that. I rescued him many years ago from brink of death along with his buddy. It made me feel awful....

I'm sorry to hear that I think animals instinctually know when a appendage has to go after serious injury.... He may have saved himself from a serious infection. Hopefully he heals up without further complication and easily adapts to the disability.

Aw, Mikey I'm sorry about your little keet. What a terrible thing to come home to. I know it must feel awful, but you really are a great birdie daddy. I know you'll make the best accommodations for the little handicapped guy. I hope his parakeet buddy accepts him back when he's healed. Or are you going to keep him in his own cage permanently?

Mikey, I'm so sorry to read this. How terrible to come home on your sister's wedding day to that heartbreaking discovery. This must be either Goth are Glam? I hope your little guy recovers quickly and is able to adapt to his injury.

Dear Mike, You are not alone Emmy was doing the same thing after her foot turned black. Birds will chew of any part that is seriously injured to try and protect from more serious risk. It is their way in the wild. They don't think about us taking them to vets. It's hard I know, Give him lots of TLC and time to heal. YOU'RE A GOOD DAD. Don't blame yourself. Bonita

Your family seems to be going through a lot of bird troubles lately, between this and your grey. I am so sorry you are hurting like this. Sadly loving birds comes with a price. I know you did everything you could for him.

My deepest condolences, Michael. I am so sorry that you lost him. I know that you did all you could for him.

Take solace in the fact that you gave him quite a few years that he wouldn't have had if you hadn't rescued him. And in that time, under your care, I know he was happy.

I don't own a grey....there's a potential for a grey that might be coming as she needs some TLC but not yet.
