Are radishes ok for budgies?

My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
I'm having a hard time getting Chipper to lose weight. She's a very fat little birdie. The last time I took her to the vet, the doctor said she was doing well except for being overweight. But I'm really worried that she's going to have liver problems in the future if she stays like this. I've been able to get her to eat some vegetables, and she really liked carrots and kale. But I think she's getting tired of them now. When I was in the grocery store recently, I saw they had radishes, and I thought I read that radishes were one of the things parakeets can eat. Should I try getting some for chipper?

I've never eaten radishes myself before, so I have no idea what they taste like. If they are safe for birds, has anyone given them to their birds and how did they react?

Does anyone have any ideas for other vegetables I could give to Chipper, which birds generally seem to like?

Radishes are safe for birds. You didn't say how old Chipper is or what her regular diet consists of? Did the vet suggest a more suitable diet? Does Chipper get flight exercise? Have you tried sprouts? My budgies aren't wild about veggies, but they will eat kale, sugar snap peas, cooked broccoli, shredded broccoli and carrots, cabbage leaves and green beans. Sprouts are their favorite.
