I think my tiel had a night fright. This morning Kalypso had blood on her foot and tips of one wing. At first I thought something was wrong with her foot but I went and washed her off and the blood was coming from feathers she broke. I kind of feel bad about it but I couldnt do anything about it. I dont know what scared her though. She has a night light and no other animals are in the room. Well thought I would share this with you. How can you help prevent this?:yellow1:

Tiels seem to be prone to this behavior than most other species. Are you covering the cage at night? If so, try to leave a corner uncovered. If you're not covering, try covering with a light sheet.

That's what I've heard about tiels too. The one I had years ago did it a lot. I didn't cover the cage. Terry was his name, he actually always pulled all his broken blood feathers out all by himself as if it was instinctive. I've never heard of birds doing that, but thank goodness Terry would.

For the first couple of months after I brought my tiel home she had terrible night frights. She also pulled her broken feathers out. I felt so bad for her. We gave her a night light and we only cover the top half of her cage now. After a few weeks she completely stopped and she hasn't had night frights since.

I have had her for a around 6 months she is very happy and content. I dont cover her cage but I can. I bought her a night light to help prevent this but she had one out of the blue. At least she acted like her bleeding was no big deal it didnt phase her so I am thankful for that.
