Good day all,
I have never participated in a forum so excuse any of my mistakes.
I have four cockatiel fids one is female and she is a chronic egg layer. This last session she ended up with 10 eggs laid over a duration of about 2 months. Her and the boys relationship is similar to a love triangle.

The problem is that after sitting this last time when she emerged from the nest she could no longer fly. Xrays reveal muscle atrophy in her right pectorial. I need to know if there is anything I can do to treat this so she can fly again.
******************************************************************
Please help my baby if you can....

Hello Loraine, Welcome to the forum.

Is your female cockatiel under the care of an Avian Veterinarian? Chronic egg laying can seriously deplete your bird's health and lead to egg binding. If your girl is showing signs of atrophy I would definitely get her to a vet.

Are you removing the eggs as she lays them? Sometimes a hen will continue to replace the eggs when you take them away.

Hopefully someone with more cockatiel experience will have helpful advice for you. Good luck with your little one.

Since she has a history of chronic egg laying, have you discussed putting her on medication to prevent her from laying ? ? ?

I would think that to help build up her muscle mass, you need to get her to exercise her wings on a regular basis, but I think I would talk it over with my vet.....

Good luck.....

I wanted to add, are you feeding any calcium supplements since she's laying all these eggs. If you are, what type?
