Ok, so I had yet another person tell me that they got a "hand fed" bird from a certain store recently; and that the store clipped the wings because you have to do that to get them to bond. The baby was raised in the store, and it is fearful of humans a bit and doesn't know how to step up. I get so frustrated when breeders and pet stores teach people that wing clipping is necessary for bonding or trust, as if somehow flight makes birds afraid, when in reality it is the opposite when done right. So here is a video of my tiel babies, yes they are hungry in this video, you can hear them asking for food, but they do this to everyone they meet; they love people, they trust, they fly, they play. Wing clipping is a personal choice and often the best choice, but it is VERY possible to bond with a flighted bird, and a baby straight from a good breeder should not be afraid of people yet. So here are my babies; forgive the sloppy appearance, it's a sweat pants and no makeup day, and they had already been "working me over" for a while!

As you can see they are not trying to escape me, lol.

Lol! :)

They are like boomerrangs. Haha!

But yeah, you are right. Maverick is flighted, and he never leaves me alone. So I call bullcrap to that theory, as well!

Sweet video, Dani! Such cute babies, and it's obvious they aren't having any trouble bonding, thank you for sharing.

I should mention that I do think that sometimes clipping a bird does help speed up the bonding process, because it eliminates having to "chase" a frightened bird who escapes during taming and training. To be clear, I am calling out breeders who can't put the effort into being nice to a baby bird they are feeding, so the baby isn't "tame" when it weans.

Today my babies were mauling the one and two year old I babysit; and by mauling I mean nibbling, following, landing on, and playing with the toys they were playing with. yes CLOSELY supervised lol! And they have a new favorite hang out spot; the "dining room" light, which is really the light in the room they have taken over that is not technically the bird room ;) Light makes it hard but...

The light is "cool burning" so they dont get cooked, thank God! The first time one fell in I nearly panicked but I have learned better, and they have learned to get out. They will run around in circles for ages up there, and sometimes, like in this picture, they just all chill after a meal and preen each other, which is good since they now refuse to submit to much washing after a meal, and the pied babies are messy eaters; the girls get them cleaned up in a hurry though!

Also, is there anything in the world cuter than newly hatched cockatiels? I don't think so. I think they are my very favoritest thing! These two buttons hatched yesterday :)

Lol it's not me, it's everyone. They are such social little guys it makes me so mad when they get locked up in single cages, have their feathers cut before they learn how to use them, put in a stressful stores and then their fear is blamed on THEM and not on the PEOPLE.
