The Desert. Sonoran.
Parrots
Female Solomon Island Eclectus/ Carmella.
4 conures, Azul, a turquoise green cheeks, Zola - a Pineapple green cheeks, Zeek-a Nanday, and Kiwi, a Dusky Conure.
While looking through forum, I didn't see any mention of potential toxic issues with rocks.
I would like to mention that through my own horrible, potentially fatal experience with my Eclectus, that rocks, depending on what they are, can and do cause a very expensive, and sad visit to the vets office. I was lucky, and I feel very blessed that Carmella, while not out of the woods yet, has shown marked improvement since Monday when she found a very toxic malachite and lapis rock with Copper and Iron in it.
It took about 4 hours and she was showing slowed reactions and was not eating or "screaming" her fondness for me. I immediately took her to an avian vet, and explained what she had chewed on (she munched 1 munch and I grabbed it from her.) that was all it took - x-rays showed 3 metal flecks in her belly and now I am giving her 4 different meds thru-out the day and night, and am apprehensive when I go to check on her, afraid of what I will find. She is now starting to eat and drink again, and isn't sleeping all the time.
All of my rocks are now out of the house and areas where she is.
I am a rock nerd, so for me to have rocks everywhere was not unusual...
a lot of jewelry can be toxic as well. All I can do is stress to be very vigilant about what your bird can get ahold of as their little bodies can't take a whole lot of toxins and I feel very fortunate that this was not a fatal lesson, but a lesson with guilt none the less. :red1:

Thank you VERY much for the warning about rocks, Cheri!!

And I truly hope your Carmella makes a speedy and FULL recovery. WOW, that had to have been so scary!!
