Well this morning I woke up to find a package on my door, after opening it very warily what I found turned my stomach. Inside were two pretty little budgies, but boy are they sick, At the moment they are in a cage with heat pad and are in my bedroom, I'm having to feed them every 2/3 hours. Another big thanks to my local pet store who opened up early to give me a bag of formula, I've just fed them and they took a little of it. If they can make it through the night, they may stand a chance. I have my vet coming out tomorrow to check on them. He popped in today but until they had something to eat he wasn't willing to pull them about and put them under any more stress than they are already in. I have no idea where these guys came from or how long they were there, but last night was a real cold night, wet and windy so just being in a box was no protection from even the elements let along the foxes that go walking round the streets in the evening time, or the cats that are always about. It makes me boil when I think that if they had come round during the day and handed them to me, I would have taken them, but at least I could have found out a little history on the poor little mites. I'll let you know in the morning how they are doing. It seems we have yet another Male and Female. I'm afraid there won't be any pictures just yet as they are not in any state to have me taking pics and it would break your hearts to see the state of them. The look like breathing skeletons at the moment.

Will do, I'll keep you all updated on a daily basis. Hopefully they'll make it through the night that will be the first hurdle for them.

Aw, that's horrible, but at least whatever creep it was who couldn't care for them or deliver them properly knew the right person to go to (I think I said that right...) Anyway, good luck Peta, I'll be thinking good thoughts for them.

in a way I want to beat the snot out of the person who did this to these two little birdies ... BUT, on the other hand, they did leave them we someone who is very capable in caring for them, they should have done it in a much better way though ...

all in all, these are bad people -- sending good thoughts to the UK and Peta's doorstep!

Thanks so much you guys. I wasn't going to say anything until I knew for sure what was going to happen but I was feeling so low when I logged on this evening and then reading all the posts soon had me smiling and feeling more determined than ever. I've done it before so hopefully I'll do it again. Anyway after reading everything here and you guys making me get a hold of myself and stop feeling so sorry for myself I decided that it was because of you guys that I'm so determined again so thought you all had a right to know, these two little fellas are "OUR BIRDS" and I'm doing it for us all.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Good Luck Peta!! It will be a lot of work, but you are so good with birds I am sure you can helo them out. I never understand how people can treat animals cruelly. At least this person knew that you could handle birds. At least it wasn't a random doorstep, cause now they have a chance.

Thanks Christy, nobody heard anything or saw anything and I'm quite out of the way where I live so I'm grateful that they were safe outside for a while. We have so many foxes and cats roaming round the houses during the evening that its scary. Those poor babies must have been scared stiff as well as freezing cold.

Awww Peta I'm so glad you've got them now you can show them some real love :) Maybe if they get better we could have a vote for what to name them since you said they were all of our birds :) I know you will do all you can for them.

I love that idea Kelli, name the budgies contest.

Peta I think you should start a rescue, I think it is your "calling in life".

I dont know what to say here.. im happy and mad at the same time... Im happy because im glad that they are with someone who knows what they are doing, but mad because who leave 2 poor helpless little creatures on a DOOR STEP in a cold weather when animals get it!!!!

So are they like babies, or are they.. adult birds that are sick?

wow, yeah , dont know what to say at all. I get on to see all this new unhappy yet happy story. The only way i could figure is the person who left them for you knew you would have some very harsh things to say to them and left them so they woudnt have to hear it. This forum is a great family (flock) and one thing I have learned, Peta, is you are deff the local bird lady in your town, and you have now know how you can ger more birdies in the house.... when you fall in love with the next fid(s) when you bring it home walk in the door say "Oh hun... look what someone left on the door step." could work
bringing some smiles to a time of hope

Good luck little birdie buddies, your with a great Mom now... but beware of "The Grey Ones" ....you didnt hear it from me, but the one they call Buc thinks he calls all the shots

Funny you should say that I heard the very same thing. :D

He knows something is going on but can't work out why he isn't allowed anywhere near them at the moment.

They made it through the night and are looking a bit better, but the vet said that they were not out of the woods yet, they are very skinny and dehydrated, not a good start, but they are determined little birdies and I'm hoping that their will to survive is as determined.

Kelli I love the idea of having a vote on their names, and yes they are definately "Our Birds". I just hope that I can help them make it through this tough time that lays ahead of them.

At the moment I'm refering to them as Parrot & Forum, :D they're not babies, but their not old guys, we can see that we have male and female, both the vet and I are estimating anything up to about 4 years old. But to see them at the moment they look about 100 :(

I'll keep you informed. Oh we are now feeding them every hour or so, depending on how much they have, as they weren't taking a lot of food so very little and very often.

Well I am bored at work and was looking for something to do so I said
hmmm, what are some good paired names...
So I made a list, feel free to add to it.

Abbott & Costello -entertainers (think thats both male though)

Adam & Eve -no brainer lol

Luke & Leia -Star Wars

Punch & Judy -popular puppet show

Romeo & Juliet -Shakespear

play on words:

Daisy and Duke

Itsy and Bitsy

Macaroni and Cheese (I had too, just had too :p )

Peanutbutter and Jelly (P.B. and J for short?)

when you fall in love with the next fid(s) when you bring it home walk in the door say "Oh hun... look what someone left on the door step."

That's exactly what I was thinking. Perfect plan.

I think I agree with everyone else. Being both happy and upset. If they make it, then I will be happy because they survived and are with the right person. If they don't (god forbid), then I will be highly upset...even if they didn't want to talk to you, they could've said...'hey, here'. Set down the box and ran away....(I mean what are you going to do first...chase down the person, or open the box?)

However it must definitely be a local person that left them with you. They probably didn't want you to know how in bad of shape their birds were.
