I found an ad on Craigslist for a free keet in my town!! I want her soo bad... Comes with cage and everything and shes a beautiful bird (well... i think all birds are beautiful haha) I asked my mom but she said if I get her I cant get another bird in August... This is annoying me I want her so bad. The person is giving her up because they got a new puppy and they are scared the puppy is going to get her :(

Would it be hard to have a keet? I was gonna get a keet and they are really low maintainence from what i've heard and 2 people in my grade that I know have one but its different if you had a conure/tiel and a keet.... Awww I want this girl so bad :(
I am also worried about egg binding and it has had its wings un clipped for all of its 3 years of life. I wouldnt really want her to be flighted but would feel horrible taking that away :( I guess I could keep her in my room.... Ugh i gotta stop myself from this it is making me feel like im getting her lol

i think there's a bit of difference in "exotic" level of keets and conures... conures are little macaws essentially (that's what I've been told anyways) I wanted to start with a keet but i fell in love with my little conure. She's really really smart and can learn so much, I'm not sure about keets so you'd have to get the other side from someone that has one! The keets around here don't really do much... but all the conures I've seen have big personalities

If I get the keet I'll probably get a tiel instead of a conure for the sake of the keet.

That makes sense. I think a keet and a 'tiel would get along better than a keet and a conure. keets are so little! lol

:D You know what I think, I think that you will love ANY bird you get no matter what. So if your parents will let you get the keet and nothing else..why not? My first birds were parakeets, Bobo and Joker and I loved them too! They can also be little bundles of personalities.

I'd think it's worth meeting her anyway, see if you are compatable.

It'd kill me to wait until August to get a bird...but that's just me :)

Good luck with what ever you choose to do! And she is one very pretty keet!

Truly we have a keet, a tiel, and a pionus. They all get along fine together, so I wouldn't really worry about what you got with the keet. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

My first little birds were finches, and shortly after that I got a little keet. I think I was 8 years old. I named him Sam, and oh I loved him. I built him a little table top playstand, and he used to sit and watch TV with me. Sometimes I would fall asleep, and without fail I would wake up to this little chirping keet on my headboard, greeting me with his morning song. He was an awesome little bird.

If you get a tiel and the keet make sure you DO NOT cage them together. Quarantine also.

Keets are known for amputating toes, or so I've heard, from larger birds. Also known for bullying larger birds. Tiels ca also easily kill a keet.

As far as personalities go, I have two keets. One normal cobalt and a spangle cobalt. My female (tapa) is VERY bossy! If she doesnt want Tio to perch, he doesnt get to have a perch lol. Also if I have her out of the cage she is usually the last one to get back into the cage. My Spangle (Tio) is a very sweet little guy. He is the first one at the cage door and is always willing to eat some millet from my fingers. He is more tame and LOVES playing with his Ferris wheel toy. Mt keets have as much personality as my conure does lol.

So if personality is an issue for you, dont worry all birds have personality once they've become comfy with their surroundings.

As far as letting keets interact with a bigger bird I would just watch VERY closely. I let mine around Xander sometimes but always right there ready to intervene in case something happens. All birds will react differently so just keep an eye out

I house my two cockatiels with my budgies. No problems at all, except they sit in the food bowl while eating which annoys the budgies.
My budgies are more out-going, while the cockatiels easily freak out and don't like me that much ( :( ). Okay, most of my babies aren't tame, three are pretty tame seeing as I've handled them since 2 weeks, the rest are either semi-tame or very wild.

Honestly, I'd go and see the budgie ( aka parakeet although budgie is more the correct term ), check out how tame she is, ask the owners questions etc before deciding.
Good luck!
