It was about time :) My IRN

SO as you guys know a few weeks back i made a thread in which i asked for your help regarding my first parrot which was a irn. So after 1 month of training my parrot i finally hand tamed him. He spends most of his time out of the cage.

Now the wird thing is he only step up's to me and no one else in my family. Also he only step up's to my right hand on my command.

Congrats on the training, he looks great.

He only steps up for you .... were you the only one training him?

If you want him to step up for others then they'll will need to go through similar training steps with him. It should go much quicker, as he's not learning something new, but just learning that the step-up-game applies to other people (or other hands) as well.

Our pets don't always learn what we *intend* to teach - he seems to have learned the step-up command, but you want him to generalize it, so now you need to teach him that it is more general.

That said, it is also quite normal for birds to bond primarily with one person. Hopefully he is comfortable with everyone else in the house - and they should be able to have him step up and do some basics, but he may be *your* bird.

Do you know how old he is? IRN's sexually mature at 3 years old. Either get him DNA tested or wait?

Great job! We have been dieing to know if our IRN is a male or female too. When we picked "him" (I am wishing that it is a him) out we spent an hour trying to compare head shapes, wings, and cheek color. I have also heard that the bluffign stage MAY not be a severe with males as it is with females but I am not sure if this is true.

You should try to have other people work with your IRN so that he/she will be ok with others if you have to go out of town one day. What I do is have other people give Sky treats, I will place him on other people and still stay very close and pet him. Then I will have the person give treats while I back away. He is not great at it but he will at least step up on strangers now Good luck
