Alexandrine "Mango"
Ok quick backround. I have fostered all kinds of birds for our local parrot rescue most coming in with issues screaming, biting, attacking or just terrified. And rightfully so, with most being abused and neglected and just not wanted because the fun of it wore off.
Now the Im excited...I think part. On Friday I brought home MY first bird, a 7 month old Alex who I named "Mango". I ABSOLUTLY adore this bird, he/she is such a sweetheart. So, the first 2 days Mango was very nervous just perched in corner of cage not moving much just trembling, yesterday he started exploring his cage and was even eating pellets out of my hand. He spent most the day up on top of his cage on the playtop and he was letting me pet him and taking food from me, seemed much happier. Today, was out on playtop all day and exploring alot and being very interested in his surroundings, shaking a little here and there but seemed to be settling in. He has not once attempted to bite or even look like he wanted too. SO, tonight at sunset I heard him make his first noise and I was SO EXCITED it was so funny my boyfriend was laughing at me. Mango continued to call very softly for about 5 minutes, then went up to his top perch and kinda settled in for the night. MY QUESTION IS...does this mean he's starting to feel comfortably and happy or was this just his instinct to call for flock at nightfall..?

He is beginning to feel comfortable in his new home! they do tend to call more morning and night but they wont at all if they are scared so you must be doing a great job settling him/her in.
My male alex was an absolute character - not cuddly but the most amazing talker and mimic, had my voice down so perfect he used to fool my boyfriend!!
Just be aware, not sure if you clip or not but if he is, they are still very good at flying whilst clipped so always be careful of doors/windows etc (im sure you know that, its just how I lost mine so I had to throw that in there!)
Have fun with your new friend it just gets better every day!!
