Hi!
Congrats on your new baby!

Youve had him for 4 days, it can take weeks or even months for birds to adjust to you. He will still be getting used to his new surroundings, the best thing you can do is give him space, let him get used to things and dont try and force things. If he is always backing away you need to take things slower. The first thing you need to do wait for him to get used to your presence before you try anything else. A good thing to do is to just sit next to the cage and talk quietly to your bird (but 'ignoring' him - avert your eyes, keep all movements soft and gentle). Eventually he will get used to your presence - he will appear relaxed and interested in you and you can move onto the next step. Do this for as long as you can - reading to them is a good thing to do. Also eat while sitting next to the cage - eating is a non threatening activity. You can offer him some but as soon as he starts to get stressed back right off and let him feel safe again. You might need to start with just sticking a treat in the bars and leaving it there and waiting for him to come take it from the bars while you sit next to the cage. Remember you are building trust incrementally - gently does it. Patience and perserverance is the way to go...
Once he is used to that you can start offering him treats, getting him used to your hands, then eventually teaching him the step up command...
Remember 4 days is nothing in the scheme of things - i know it is tempting to shower them with attention but you need to take it nice and sloooooowwwwwww, he will come round eventually!

Take it back and find a baby that comes to you.If that's not what you want to do then it will take time and patience on your part to tame this baby down to where you can work with it.Hand fed doesn't mean well socialized ,socializing a baby bird is a lot more work than feeding one.I'd meet lots of babies and find one that shows some interest in you. Do own a CAG ? or did you get a grey IRN? Is this your first? There are lots of threads on taming birds here ,read around and let us know if you have any questions ,I'm not a big IRN fan but would be glad to help.

I have an irn and my Cody was the same way when I first got him. The breeder, who is a good friend, (so I know he was raised right), delivered him to me. He spent 4 hours in the car and then came to a house where he wasn't familiar.
He sat in his new cage with his back to me and would only go to the breeder.
Rather than just let him sit there, I took him out of the cage and cuddled him, and played with him, and just sat there watching tv with him. The next day he jumped right up on my finger and has ever since.
I know that everyone will probably disagree with doing that, but having that interaction almost right away has worked for me when the birds are still babies.
Now, if a stranger comes up, he will put his back to them and ignore them.
