The little guy(or girl) is 3 weeks old today so I took a quick little video of his 3pm feeding :) His wings and tail are getting bigger and bigger everyday and his little voice is getting louder as well. I'm still not sure why he is 3 weeks old and has no fuzz on his body but he does have little tiny spots that look like they're coming in. It just seems strange, I've been looking at pics of 1 week old babies who's body's are completely fuzzy and then I look at our bald little guy :D Other than that, he seems happy and healthy and he sure has a big appetite. :) He's the little monster chowin' down:

Oh I know, I would take a hundred baby birdies before I'd sign on for one baby human, at least at this point in my life. About 3 years ago I quit my job at the petstore to stay at home with my room mates new born(my godson). We realized that daycare cost more than I made in a week so it made more sense for me to just watch him....let's just say after a few months of that I would have killed to go back to that pet store :)
He's really taken to the spoon, much better than the syringe, he sucks it down sooo fast now that he's gotten the hang of it. He's gotten much better about not swallowing air now too, he still does it, and you can see that I have to burp him twice in that video. But only a week ago I was having to do it about 10 times per feeding and it was taking almost 20 minutes to feed him, now, as you can see, his entire feeding only takes about 3-4 minutes :) He should be the most social budgie ever though, he's getting lots of interaction with us :) I keep saying he's also going to be the most confused budgie as well, he sleeps under a stuffed frog and is fed by humans...do I sense an identity crisis coming? ;)

Update: 25 days old, wings are getting bigger and he's getting much more strength, his voice is getting louder and he seems to be staying awake much longer. Before, he only awoke for about 15 minutes at a time, every 3 hours to be fed. Now he seems to awake and peeping for about 20-30 minutes at a time and it's not always to be fed. He also seems to recognize our voices now and will wake up and start crying if he hears or sees us :) I'm referring to him as a he even though we obviously have no idea at this point and we have taken to calling him "Icky" short for Icarus since I was ready the book "when the wind blows" while he hatched :) So I'm hoping he actually turns out to be a boy lol. He still has no feathers on his body which has me a bit perplexed but his wings, tail and head feathers are coming in quite nicely. I've also noticed that he doesn't perch on his feet too often and instead kind of sits leaning back on what I can only refer to as his elbows. I'm hoping that's something he will grow out of and I have been exercising his feet while i'm holding him and trying to reposition him so that he sits correctly. He is still eating about every 3-3.5 hours and eats like a pig. I got some new pictures just now, sorry some of them are kind of blurry but I wanted to get some before I fed him since all of my other pictures of him have his huge, full bulbous crop. :) And he was not sitting still as he was quite dramatically begging for food. Billie and ziggy both seem quite jealous over the little guy, billie has taken to making strange new sounds and bobbing his head at me like a baby now  and while I was just feeding him ziggy decided to launch off of her cage and somehow landed on our bed. Although, instead of coming to me she decided she was going to try and climb up our dogs leg, much to the dismay of him(he's quite weary of the birds lol. He is as gentle as can be with them but he has been bitten by both of them so now he tries to avoid them at all costs.)

We adopted 5 adult budgies from a friend of mine that is going through some severe health issues and he is a baby from the one pair :) Actually, the all blue pair in my signature are his parents.

Hi,

I am new here but did breed budgies when I was in highschool. Yours might just be a late bloomer. Mine were always full fledged and climbing cage bars by a month old. (climbing out of the nest box at just two weeks). I always parent raised mine as I was in highschool and have read research that it is better for the baby if it is an option (like breast feeding, not for everybird, no judgement). Mine were handled daily from about a week old by me and my sisters during nest changes and since they were always hatched in late spring we would take them out and let them be with us while we did homework and what not. I got very good reports from the new parents when I would do my two week checkins and many people waited to get a second bird from the same mom and me.
Sorry I dont have any truely useful information for you.

Well, our little icky is five weeks old today and he is making a lot of progress. He is standing a little better and he has started "perching" on my finger as I feed him now. He can't do it by himself yet but as long as I put his feet on my finger, like a perch, and give him some extra balance from my palm, he holds on pretty nicely. He is finally getting fuzz on his body and has blue pin feathers like crazy! He is eating well, taking thicker formula and it is now every 5-6 hours rather than every three. He is so friendly, he can be dead asleep and if he hears our voices he starts chirping and trying to get out of his brooder to get with us. I can even place him on our bed and he will run after us :) He's going to be such a sweet little budgie :) I took some pictures a minute ago but they aren't very good. My camera is horrible and likes to not focus on anything, ever, unless the lighting is just perfect, and on top of that, icky just won't sit still so that just ups the blurry factor, but I'll post them anyway.

Oh, I also recently made a facebook page for our newly blossoming breeding endeavor. If anyone cares to friend me, you can just look up Feathers-First Aviary on fb :)
