What is the difference? We can not find a good store but we found one store that has handraised/handfed American/english mix budgies. They are asking $40 for a just weaned baby. I have emailed 3 or 4 breeders in the area and haven't heard back from them. So right now this store is the best place I'm thinking, as much as I hate going through a petstore.

I like the mixes, they are a little larger than a normal american budgie and generally have a longer lifespan than the pure english. And forty is a great price from a pet store, that's what I charge for my hand fed american babies. The only thing that would concern me is how they are hand feeding. I've noticed that budgies that are just hand fed but then put right back in their cage with the other clutchmates seem to be almost as wild as a parent raised budgie that was pulled at a young age. How much time they spend socializing the bird really is key to getting a friendly baby. I would go to the store and check them out. If the birds are friendly and one really clicks with you, get him! If not then keep trying to contact some other breeders.

Not sure we are definetely going to check them out first and they allow us to come spend time with our baby whenever we want until they are weaned. This'll be our daughter's bird so even though I will be caring for the baby she will pick so we're going to let her pick. For her birthday I am wrapping up all the bird supplies for her to open.

my daughter's birthday is this weekend so I bought the stuff to wrap up for her. On my husband's next weekend we're taking her up to look at the babies that are weaning in about a week to see if she likes any of them.

My daughter really loves JJ but is really unsure around her but she wants a bird of her own so I figure a parakeet would be perfect for us right now it's small enough where she won't be afraid of it and I know I will have enough time for a parakeet as opposed to a cockatiel or other bird.

jewels04 I have been looking for a place where I could buy an english budgie or a mix of english/american budgie. Can you please let me know the store where you found yours? or any breeder?

Thank you

Periquito, this post is from 2012, so it's likely that the members who were posting are no longer around much...Just wanted to give you a heads-up, as I've done this many times, lol, it's easy to miss the date in the top, left-hand corner of the post...You might try sending them a PM to see if they still log-on and are an active member...

As far as your question about finding an English Budgie, I used to breed them myself, both English Budgies and American/Australian Budgies, and I also bred hybrids of the two (I currently have 8 English/American Hybrids that were the last clutch of birds I ever bred, I kept them to add to my family/flock)...I love the English Budgies, so beautiful, and usually a bit larger than the American guys....

I don't know where you live, but if you're in the US somewhere, it is much less common to find English Budgies for sale anymore, but they are out there. A lot of finding one depends on what you are looking for...Do you want a hand-fed/hand-raised baby English Budgie, or is a baby or adult that was parent-raised and that will need to be worked-with to be tamed okay?

The reason I ask is because actually, in my experience with the English Budgies in the US, you are actually much more likely to find a hand-fed/hand-raised baby English Budgie than a parent-raised one, because most of the English Budgies out there for sale are from private, individual breeders. You would be very hard-pressed to find an English Budgie in a pet shop or bird shop, unless it was one that was surrendered or dropped-off to a pet shop, etc.

****seen quite a few hand-fed/hand-raised English Budgies for sale on Craigslist, so if you are in the US I would go onto your local Craigslist page for pets (go to "Community" and then "Pets"), and then do a search for "Budgie" and go out the max of 200 miles in the search bar on the left-hand side of the page...You may have to drive an hour or two to get one, but I bet you'll find a breeder with some...The further you're willing to drive/search, the better odds you'll have.

The other places to check are www.birdsnow.com and www.birdbreeders.com and BirdsnWays Guide to Pet Birds, Parrots & Exotic Birds Care & Breeding. Breeders, classifieds, products & information. Macaws, cockatoos, cockatiels, amazons

On the above pages you can search specifically for English Budgies, and most of the breeders who post on these sites, regardless of where they are in the US, will safely ship a baby to you for around $125, including the carrier to ship them in (completely safe, there are a couple of airlines who ship live animals and they provide the carrier and the animal goes into a special zone of the cargo-area and there is someone with them the entire flight)..I don't know if this is cost-effective with an English-Budgie since a hand-raised/hand-fed baby should cost around $100 at most (unless it's a show-bird), so the shipping would cost more than the bird, lol, but hey, if you want one that badly, why not...

***Also, depending on where you live, I know many breeders of all types of Budgies and other species of "Parakeets", such as Princess of Wales, BeBe's, baraband, etc., most are in the northeast and mid-atlantic US, and a lot down in North Carolina and South Carolina...So if I can help let me know...
