Rigby-white and blue male budgie hatched 5/05/2012
So we went yesterday and let our daughter pick out her new baby. It was really hard to pick out of four babies available. We decided against the one really blue baby they had because he was kinda crazy spastic. There were 2 with almost all white with a little bluish purplish color almost and than there was the baby we picked. Not sure if it's girl or boy, I bet it's probably a girl seeing as we were hoping for a boy. I don't care what the baby is it seemed kinda shy but wasn't biting and my daughter loved it. So hopefully this little one will be a good fit. They still have about 3 weeks left to go before coming home but we're going to try and get in to visit with our baby once more before we bring the baby home.

Also, in other news, we bought my daughter a used cage for her parakeet and the woman we bought it from happens to breed green cheeks. So as of right now I am also on the list to bring home a green cheek baby but that won't be for months she said she needs to give her breeders back their nest boxes still. So it will give me time to prepare everyone (more so JJ than anyone else). I really thought my husband would fight me more but he just asked if the green cheeks were as loud or louder than JJ. He said if it was louder than JJ absolutely not.

Anyways, here are some pictures of our new baby that will be coming home soon.

She is beautiful!!!! I thought for a minute that the red was some unique color of feather she had (lol). I'll bet your daughter is sooooo excited! She will love having a little friend of her very own!

That's an odd thing to do, I hope it wasn't a sharpie and I hope it was nontoxic.

No it was a crayola washable, they asked my daughter what color she wanted and they said it will come off soon.

Just curious, how can you tell if it's a boy this young?

Males will have smaller nostrils and usually pink, even toned ceres. Females will usually have larger nostrils, more bulbous ceres and there will be white around each nostril. This only goes for the blues and the greens, it's a little more complicated with the INO's. :) I am usually pretty certain of the sexes of my babies before they go to their new homes, I do always tell people that I can't guarantee 100% on their gender without a DNA test just in case I would be wrong but I've been right so far :)

thanks! My daughter is SO excited. She can't wait to set up the cage. I told her she needs to clean off her dresser first so we can set her baby's cage up so she has been trying to clean her dresser off as quick as she can, and her brother keeps putting junk back on it so we hope to have the cage set up with all the toys this weekend. Maybe next time my husband is off we will be able to go see our baby again and I can get more pictures. When we went to pick the baby out. He was kinda shy, always trying to burrow into papertowels and stuff so hopefully next time we get to see him he'll be a little more outgoing. However I think the really blue baby was getting them all riled up and scared because that one was a little terror. He must have been REALLY hungry as soon as he was out and was running and biting everyone's hands looking for food and he got me really good the one time. I can't wait to bring the little one home with us! My daughter already named her baby Cinderella...not sure if it's going to work as a boy's name but we don't have to tell her she is a he if it turns out that way.
