Cinderella-white and blue female budgie hatched 4/08/12

Rigby-white and blue male budgie hatched 5/05/2012
So we took our daughter on the hour long car ride to see our new baby and get some bonding time in. They said about another week to week and a half before she gets to come home so we are SOOO excited.

She did pretty good when we first got her out she was pretty flighty and more interested in flying and finding a spot to hide but after about 10-15 minutes she warmed up and perched on our hands and let us pet her neck and back. She got a little nippy with my daughter but we are still teaching our daughter to be calm when approaching and we think the budgie was a little tired and hungry (we had her out for about an hour).

Can't wait to get her home and my daughter already picked her name out Cinderella(for a girl) and Jack(for a boy).

Here the baby is when we first got her out she flew and perched on the window looking out into the store:

Here she is perched on my hand (which we think she is actually a he but we still call the baby a she because my daughter really wants to name it Cinderella):

Here she is perched on my daughter's hand:

and here she is perched on my hubby's hand(her daddy):

Sucha beautiful baby!

I'm no budgie expert, but I've read and been told that the blue/purple cere means boy and a tan/beige/flesh colored cere means girl.

So by these photos...I do believe you have a very handsome male. :)

I bet he learns to talk...many male budgies become excellent talkers.

Congratulations!

Pretty little baby :). Love those big black baby eyes they have :)
Looks like a young man to me too , lol.
He may not mind being called Cinderella ;)
He really must like the mineral block too , lolol. I'm assuming that's why he has a red stain on top of his head :).
Good luck with him , he's adorable :)

The red dot on the head is how they marked the baby to let them know she was ours. They allowed my daughter pick a color and they marked the baby's head with crayola marker. We are getting so excited to get her home my daughter has set her cage up and rearranged it 3 times already.

I also think it's a he and he is really handsom :whiteblue: ... the name doesn't matter, we had a budgie named Betty (it was still very young and we only it was a girl) and actually later on we saw it was a boy, we tried to change the name, but the feather ball just wouldn't listen to any other name haha :D

I think he's a female... Females have white/blue ceres, when they're young...

But, whichever sex, he/she is gorgerous...

Congratulations...

Yeah we aren't sure boy or girl. First visit it looked male but yesterday when I saw the blue I thought maybe it could be female. It's about 2 months old now. We'll see but regardless we love him or her. If it turns out not to be a boy looks like i'll have to get my own parakeet and keep trying till I get a boy, lol.

I'm posting from my phone so sorry this is short, just had to say, she is adorable and I am almost 100% certain that is a female. Young males have small nostrils and pink even toned ceres, females will be blue, with larger nostrils and white rings around each nostril.

Thank you! I think her name would be Cinderella regardless of boy or girl so good thing it's a she than. Doesn't quite matter to us my daughter is happy and it's the color she wanted so win/win situation. I was very happy to see they feed her a mix of pellets with a small amount of seeds. They sell Harrison's as well and the woman said that is what she feeds her birds. The baby is on zupreem pellets right now so we'll keep her on those for now and see how she does with Harrison's when she has had some time to settle in.

Pretty baby! I love light blue budgies! Keep up with the head and neck scratching. My Spooky hates being touched, but loves hanging out with you for hours on end. He's very hand friendly, just doesn't like his head being touched. I just love budgies. They're so cute as babies and stay cute as adults. They're so easy to take care of.

I was at a loss with my Spooky Burd to whether he was a boy or girl. He used to have a very light almost blue-purple cere. Everybody on a budgie forum (one of them had been breeding budgies for like 50+ years and was an "expert" on sexing budgies by their ceres) told me he was a girl. He ended up being a boy with a very beautiful blue cere to go with his gorgeous colors. (I was hoping Spooky would be a boy lol the brown crusty cere just wouldn't match his pretty blue feathers. :p) My female budgie, Meister, is a "trap bird" we swore she was a he for the longest time. She had a bright blue cere and next thing I know it's brown and crusty like her long time friend Metzger had. (RIP pretty girl).

I must say, I love my little Spooky Burd differently than my Meister. The talking is what makes him a little more special. Meister doesn't talk at all, but is a beautiful singer. Spooky talks his little head off. If you ever get your boy Budgie make sure you teach them fun words. Spooky's favorite things to say are "here pig, pig, pig, pig... soooooooo-ie" and "be a good boy Spooky Burd" (he hears that the most because he's always being a cheeky little bugger)
