Hi everyone... haven't posted in awhile but this past week I went on vacation to Key West and while there I found a poor little cockatiel on the beach at Fort Zachery. He/She doesn't appear to be hurt and the little guy is eating well. While I was down there I called every vet on the island and I called the aspca for the island and no one reported him missing. We even spent a day walking and driving around the neighborhoods close to the park to see if there were any signs. Well needless to say we didn't find the little guys home. So I took him home with me. I can tell his wings were clipped at some point because he still has some of the ones that were clipped.

Anyway I'm feeding him a cockatiel seed mix and zupreem pellets with a little bit of apple and baby spinach which I read are appropriate them... Is this right? I don't know a lot about the little guys. Next question how soon should I take him to the vet? He seems friendly and he likes it when we talk to him but he won't come out of his cage now that we got him in there and he doesn't like our hands anywhere near him but he won't bit even when I scooped him up at the beach he didn't bit me just put his beak on me but didn't apply any pressure. Any advice is welcome.... I will post pictures soon

Thanks
Heather

Heather, Congrats on the little Florida treasure you found! The food your feeding sounds fine and I would get him to the vet ASAP! As for his interaction with you, give it time. If you found him on the beach he may a been used to that scenery and now that he in your home it is all new again. Just be patient, talk and sing to him, give him his space and take him to the vet and all should be fine. He is lucky that you found him.
