I got bored this afternoon and have decided to redo the budgie cage. (I have two boys in there)
I've never had much luck with them wanting to play with any toys, which I've always found odd. The only thing they seemed to really like was their swing.
(Toys I've tried in the past are mirrors, bells, assortment of climbing things, and some destructables)
What I have found though is that they do like natural branches, so I take cuttings and put those in there for them.
Earlier today I took a medium sized cutting of a bottlebrush tree (being in Australia, we have ALL their native trees in our backyard which is great ) and placed it in their cage. They kinda looked at it in silence for a moment before going back to chirping with each other. I'm hoping they explore it in the morning. I hid some millet in amongst the leaves, so maybe they'll be tempted to explore.
I'm also putting in an order for some Natural toys (made from Australian native trees and gumnuts) to try out. (these are located at Parrot Rescue Centre PRC Online Shop l Parrot Toys and Accessories in Australia) I've picked up (all made from natural wood) the swing budgie special, boing, wreath and more perches. I'm going to try my hand at making some toys as well, so I'm ordering an assortment of natural native nuts and pods and I'm going to string them together to see what I can make.
I'm willing to give palm braiding an attempt as well. We grow coconut trees, so the leaves are perfect for this and I've seen some birds really take to the palm-foot toys with eagerness. I dabbled a bit with palm braiding when I was very young, so unsure of how much I remember, but I think it'll be an interesting thing to see if they will play with them or not.
If I find a good eucalyptus branch with heaps of knots, I'm going to try and built a little play stand. Not sure how others would react though watching me pop branches in the oven. :54:
Regardless, hope they like it. I'll post pictures once all the goods arrive. (May take a few weeks though )
(No pure white budgie, so closest!)
