Just got the official OK that our budgie babies will be coming home on Friday. We're gonna set them both up to quarantine in our room but in seperate cages. My daughter is so happy to be getting her baby home!

We JUST got them home a few hours ago and letting them settle in. The poor babies are really frightened right now and breathing pretty fast/hard so I have them in the back bedroom and shut the door so they have as much peace and quiet as I can give them. Hopefully they start feeling better tomorrow if I don't see them eating by tomorrow the store said that we have to call them and more than likely will have to bring them back so they can get them eating again.

Congrats on your new babies! The heavy breathing is pretty normal, they are just scared from all the change, they should calm down in a day or so.

How long have they been weaned? Budgies are a bit notorious for regressing if they are sent home too soon after weaning. I keep ours at least 7-10 days after they are completely off formula and continue to weigh them daily so I know they are eating well and gaining weight. I left an english go home on day 6 a couple weeks ago, the only reason I did was because I know the woman pretty well and she has raised her own babies before and she was comfortable with taking her already. She took her home and put her in her own big flight cage with all kinds of cool toys and perches, gave her a food dish just like she had here and she wouldn't eat. We were both freaking out, she started to loose weight and she tried everything to get her to eat, she wouldn't take formula or any food that she offered her(and she offered her EVERYTHING). I finally suggested to move her to a smaller cage and within a few hours she was eating and has been gaining weight ever since. I'm not saying that's going to always be the answer but if you have them in a large cage(and from what I remember you just built a big cage for them right?) and they don't eat, try downgrading them until they get used to your home and their new family. Sometimes having all that wide open space is just too scary for little babies. :)

Chances are they will start eating on their own if you let them settle in. That pet store was all they knew of the world until today, I'm sure that's quite a shock to the little guys.

Thanks! Yeah I may move them together for a bit. We don't have a smaller cage right now. Rigby has not moved from his perch at all. Cinderella moved up into the corner of her cage last night and gave 3 little chirps when the lights went out but that was it. She is back to her perch now just sitting there. Maybe putting them back together will help? The cages are the same size as the cages they had at the store. Infact Cinderella's cage is identical to it and we made rigby's cage the same size. I am going to call the store in a bit to see what to do.

They keep the babies a week after they stop refusing formula. I think ours were the last babies to leave too because I couldn't get there until friday. They also had wings and nails done too yesterday. i just hope they settle down soon and eat I am very worried about them.
