Hi I just got an Albino and Lutino parakeet both have red eyes so I know they are full albino and lutino. They both are really beautiful and I was wondering how you can tell if they are a boy or girl because their cere is the same color. Some help determining gender will be nice. I have a feeling bot is female what a shame ):.

There's really no way in determining the age of Parakeets unless they're really young when they have the bars on the forehead. But in your coloration, the bars does not show even if they're young. The way I used to tell when I used to raise them was by the shape of their nostrils while one is more oval shaped and the other sex is more round shaped. It's been so long ago since I bred parakeets that I really forgot on how to sex them with the shapes...But I know the two I have are boys....Once the female is ready to mate, their cere turns crusty brown.

You can not go by size! I've seen tiny girls and I've seen tiny boys. I need to do some digging to remember which one is which....ugh....it's bugging me...lol

Ok, the males are more oval shaped while the females are more rounder! I had a old old parakeet book I got 16 years ago that shows them side by side in comparison but I have no idea where that book went....I wonder if my partner got rid of it accidentally, but my partner would never admit to it anyways.....I was told it's here in the library, I have YET to find it in this library....We got rid of hundreds of books a couple of years ago, it might of gotten put in there...ugh....I have another old old Cockatiel book that's gone too....

Males have pink ceres.

Females will eventually get the white/tan/brown ceres.

May be difficult to tell around the year old mark if the cere is translucent appearing. Hard to explain. Photos would help.

The white one looks more like a male while the yellow one looks more like the female. Next time click on the Directlink, copy, then in here click on the insert picture link above where your typing and insert the link within. The pictures will show up!

Does it act like a male? Does it bob its head and sing?

I have seen females act like males before, but males are usually more animated than females are. And if the cere remains pink, most definitely a male.
