white wing/canary wing parakeet help?

hello all!

first off I should apologize for any typos. the lights are out and I can't turn them back on or it will disturb sleeping fish! I will try to get them all before clicking send lol

Now on to business. I might come into possession of a one year old canary-wing (who I think is in actuality, a white-wing) parakeet in the near future. He is currently at the pet store I just transferred to and is under deep discount due to length of stay.

I am a total bird novice, but I fell for this guy. Story of my life. Now it's time to figure out if I have the ability to commit to him, or if I should just work to find him the best home possible, and I've been slowly gathering bird knowledge. Some things are slow going because they are so different from what I know. I'm guessing that a lot of parrot knowledge is a cross-species sort of generality, so I AM looking at everything I can about behavior and such, but what i really really want and am unable to find are the real-life experiences of people who own[ed] these birds.

Every site I have been to has more or less the same basic information, but it's not enough to tell me what I'm getting into. Or might be getting into.

Unfortunately, with owners of Brotos being so few and far spread, it may be easiest to ask breeders what they are like as pets. The following website lists over 30 breeders who supposedly breed the canary wings and white winged parakeets.

Other than that, it's mostly a search to find owners of them who are still frequenting forums.

Starry look into the birds needing a home forum there is one already listed as Monica gave you the link. Other then that you will probably have a rough time getting one of these little guys in our area. I have not seen very many around and none have come through rescue. I seen one at a pet store months ago but other then that in our area there are no breeders or really many pets ether.

She's my first bird, but I also work at a pet store so I've spent time with 3 other Brotos, too. Patterns I've noticed between them all are:
-Don't like being left alone! I can't walk out of the room. Ivy comes with me throughout the house.
-Not big fans of toys! Very non-destructive... except when it comes to your electronics, etc. Basically they get jealous of any objects you are touching that aren't them! Mine wants to kill my phone but her toys are pristine.
-Super stubborn and sassy! Mine chased my dog!
-Wonderful and adorable beyond all reason! Great whistlers, not too loud, happy to see you when you get home, etc. Wouldn't trade her for any bird!

Because I am well aware of the feeling most serious animal keepers have regarding purchasing from pet stores I should clarify something I didn't really mention earlier. This would be an adoption not a purchase. The store I work for is a corporate one, not a franchise or a mom and pop shop, and when an animal has been in the store for a certain amount of time, it is discounted, but the discounted price, goes straight to the foundation that all donations go to, and from there to various animal rescues. The company itself makes no profit on this.

This is important because the truth is that I want this individual bird. I've already been handling him regularly for the last few weeks, and we have a feel for each other. I do appreciate your pointing out the CW on the adoption page, because if this were a different situation, I would probably give serious consideration as I also do not typically believe in purchasing animals from pet shops (and I only say typically because I keep fish and not all fish stores are painted with the same brush.)
