I left the house at 3:30 pm today and returned at 6:30 pm. When I did a walk through to make sure all my animals were okay, I found the Keets cage door open. One of my daughters keets, 'Kuma', was not in the cage. Being that I have a cat (very trustworthy) and a 7 month old kitten (who always seems to have a bit too much interest in the birds), my first thought was "OH NO! Please don't let Kuma be dead!!!" My daughter and I started searching and calling for Kuma. I found Kuma on the floor in the living room in front of Gwens cage. He was happily eating the seed that Gwen had dropped. All the while, both the cat and the kitten watched passively from the couch. I guess it is safe to say that the cat and the kitten have both passed the ultimate test with flying colors, and that Kuma is one very lucky Parakeet to have two such trustworthy felines sharing thier home.........Not that I would want to repeat that test any time soon. ;)

OMG Alison, that must have been so scary for you both. Thank goodness Kuma is fine. Do you know how the cage door got open? What good kitty's to just sit there as watch over him like that;)

It is so nice to say that they passed THE ultimate test even when you were out of the house. Can't say I blame you for not wanting to repeat the experience thou.

Give them kitty's a good scratch from the UK.

I have no idea how the cage got open. I know that Mitzie likes to lay on top of it to suck up the warmth from the light I have on the cage, maybe she opened it while climbing up? I'm just really glad that my cats are not birdie eaters. :)
