Rosella's Mate Died, will she take to a new mate?

My Rosella's mate died a few months ago and I am wanting to get her a new mate. Since they mate for life, will she take to a new mate? How do I go about doing this?

[FONT=&quot]In the wild parrots usually do mate for life, but they will also take new mates when one is lost, they are digamous, both in the wild and in captivity. In captivity, their natural order of things is usually a little bit different & companion parrots are known to basically divorce each other and take up with another mate, even mates of different species.....I have a bonded pair of different specied conures that were in earlier relationships with other birds, again of different species, none of which died and left those relationships to move into a relationship/cage together.....

In this pic, Jimi (sun) & Fenix(nanday) are in a bonded relationship, however, they both were in previous cohabitive relationships with these two caiques, that are now in their own relationship.....

Go ahead & get the new bird if you want, but they should be kept in their own cages until they decide they want a closer relationship.....

Personally, I don't believe that all parrots mate for life... I believe that some can, but I feel that many parrots actually have multiple mates or they have "divorces" and pair up with new mates... or that perhaps males will fight over a hen.

If you want to get another rosella, then by all means, do it! Make sure that both birds are healthy before introducing them, and if you don't have a large cage, then keep them in separate cages until you are sure that they'll get along together.

I'm with you there Monica, I don't believe all birds mate for life. Our parrots as an example. I know some of mine loved their previous family/owners. BUT they learn to bond with us as well and even trying to mate with us. Then some of them will move onto the next family until we're too old to care for them. The same thing happens all over again.
