yesterday i've checked the aviary and found out that 3 eggs have fallen from the nest box, and again another egg has fallen.. i still don't know what's happening. i would like to ask if it is normal. the hen is still staying on it's nest box, i jst dont know if it is still laying eggs. i've emailed the breeder and she says its normal especially if its the first time that she lay eggs. i have just found out that the hen is already 2 years and 9 months old, and that it came from another breeder..its her first time laying too.. she just lied when she told me that she is six months when i first got the budgie and so i thought she is also lying when she told me that the situation is normal. anyway, she advised me to spunk the hen on her pelvis and i don't think its right.. a little advise would be appreciated

If you could post her nest box, it would be helpful! How many parakeets are there together??? Do you have your Cockatiels with them? Male parakeets around? How many nest boxes are there? How many pairs?

there are actually 4 nestboxes in the cage and 3 partners of budgies including the ones i told you.. the tiels have their separate cage as well.. its not suppose to be nest boxes but pieces of coconuts covering that we're put together to form a round nest.. it's the kind of nest that most Asian breeders we're using and have no problem with it.

IS the coconut stabilized or hanging?? IF it's being hung, you should really stabilize it cause that is part of your issue! So the sides need to be tie down where it does not move. Parakeets nest in tree hollows in the wild, not hanging nests. That's probably why the eggs fall out from the male flying to the entrance to feed the female and it shook the eggs out. Also make sure the entrance hole is a bit towards the top side of the coconut.

its my first time using the photobucket so bare with me.. it is placed above but its not totally hanging cause there's a wood/perch supporting the nest beneath it. it is already stabilized by wire on its back and its not swinging after all, its totally fixed before i put the birds on. anyway, the opening is slightly slant so that the eggs will never fall.

They're getting rolled out!!!! When you do nesting for parakeets they all need to face same direction and position the same way. The other parakeets might of push the eggs out. When you place them the same way they all have about the same type and height to choose from. Also make sure you have the coconut stripped somemore on the inside so its more hollow inside where it drops lower where they would lay their eggs.

thank you so much mikey. however, i've had had the nest boxes positioned at the same height and are facing at the same way before i put the birds.. and the coconut is already hollow for about 2 inches (the budgies have stripped it as well to organized the nestbox before laying eggs, so that'll add half inch hollow).

I've been figuring out what had happened and i come out with a problem with a sort of solution.. since i don't really much know if its the hen who's throwing it or the **** because it always happened maybe at night or dawn, and observed that the hen is still staying at the nest box, then there will be one and only problem.. the problem may be this: eggs thrown out may be due to another pair doing it when deciding the already occupied nest is exactly the one they want. since i have 3 pairs of budgie and there's only 4 nest boxes, the solution will be I will add up two or four nest boxes (twice as the number of pairs), all located at the same height and position and face same way. I will make it asap and hopefully, put it to aviary by sunday or earlier.

This is only a trial and error since i don't know what's happening. i'll update you guys soon..thank you for the help, BIG HUGGS~~ thnx

Just make sure from the point of the entrance down into the nesting spot gets deep enough where they can't roll the eggs out cause same thing can happen to baby chicks down the road.

Could you possibly set up a camera to monitor the nest boxes when you're not around? That might tell you the story of what's going on.

just put 4 more nest boxes in my mini aviary.. they we're hanged at the same direction and height along with the others.. i have just figured out that there we're no fallen eggs for two days, so it means that no eggs we're hatched which is supposedly my first.. however, the hen is still staying at the nest box for longer duration.hope egg falling will never happened again
