I just adopted my 3 year old teil about 2 months ago and we have instantly bonded. He is so sweet and just started to allow me to kiss him on his head and he will fly to me on command. But this week I noticed him sneezing and his nostrils became red so I immediately made a vet visit and found he had a cold so the vet gave me meds for him. Said don't worry he should take it right from syringe but guess what nope he won't so I had to use the towel method and feed it to him. He was not impressed. I have to do those once a day for 2 weeks. I'm on day 2 and he will have nothing to do with me. I hope I can get our bond back. I'm so worried I already love that guy.

Did they put flavoring within the meds??? When I administered meds to numerous tiels before I had to towel them too at first until they liked it and wanting some more on their own. So I put them down and they come right to the syringe asking for it. Some good flavoring will help them to want to take it. Otherwise you just have to keep on feeding it like the way you have been and work on his conditions later as the meds is more important at this moment. Make sure you keep him warm right now!!!

I knew a guy who gave his Sun Conure apple sauce with it. He would put it in a spoon with the Medicine with it and the bird loved it. Maybe try that?

Parrots can't catch a cold... a cold is a virus that has no cure and is constantly mutating and changing.

You can try mixing the meds in with fruit juice, organic baby food, pureed fruits, smashed steamed sweet potatos, bananas, peanut butter, almond butter, honey, yogurt, put onto a piece of toast...... anything to get it into him!

I hope he feels better soon!

Hello there mangosmith, and WELCOME to the forum. :)

I am confident your baby will forgive you for putting him through this. Why not ask dad to give you a gentle hand with administering the meds?

Best of luck with your new best friend, and if you can, please post some pictures. :)

Thanks for the referral. Unfortunately, in all the years of bird ownership (finches, budgies and love birds) I've never had call to give a bird medicine through an eye dropper. Usually, we just mixed it with their favorite food and turned them loose on it.

Luckily, to date, I haven't had need of treating Skittles ... yet (6 months) which I consider a blessing because the little imp has a heck of a bite!

Which, in my infinite wisdom as Forum member and grandparront to Lenny the Tiel, I sent her here. (I've eaven learned a little about administering meds from her question.

As always, JerseyWendy, you're the best!

Lenny is doing better still a little mad at me but his little nose is looking so much better. We have gone a little backwards with the relationship but I think once he feels better we will go back to giving lots of kisses. I'm just glad he feels better. Even know I have had him such a short time he has definitely stolen my heart. I started getting these birds to help with bonding with my autistic son but my heart melts for these feathered friends. Thanks for all the advice from everyone.
