well, I bit the bullet this morning and sent Dr. McDonald an e-mail regarding Num Num and his beak, forwarding all the info, pics, and his x-ray.

I figured I have nothing to loose and possibly a better outcome.

....now we wait and see what happens....chomp, chomp, chomp!lol

Crimson you are a great parront, as you are doing everything you can to get NumNum healed up. I am keeping you both in my prayers. Keep us posted if you hear back from Dr McDonald .

thank you everyone, you all have just been so supportive and great!!

It means a lot to me,and Num Num. I tell him everything, all the good responses I have received, and he just cocks his head and looks at me like I'm the bent one, lol.

I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

ok so this is the response I just received back from Dr. Scott McDonald:

"I will tell you that any prosthesis would be temporary only...they all tend to loosen after a few weeks to month and won't stay. So its really not a long term viable option."

unfortunately that is exactly what my vet said as well, but I wanted to get a second opinion.

well, it looks like Num Num will loose his bottom beak sooner or later.....UNLESS there is new tissue growing underneath the dead tissue, this is my last hope, but we will find out in a months time.

Thank you for the update, Beth. Wow, he responded really quickly! I know I, alongside everybody else, including especially you, were hoping for some more promising news. I am sorry, Beth. HUGS to you!!! I also know, that IF NumNum loses his lower beak, he is in THE most capable hands with you, and I truly feel he will adapt and give you MANY many years of joy and happiness.

thanks Wendy, you are right, not the news I was hoping for but I knew it was a long shot.

the vet I have is one of the best. Links Road animal clinic is known all over Ontario, and deals with mostly exotic animals, only 10% are dogs and cats.

I trust Evan completely with his diagnosis, and what ever will be will be.
I will do everything I can to make sure the transition for Num Num is as easy as possible.

thanks for the vote of confidence. :)

I think the only way a permanent prosthetic beak could be made is if there was no new tissue and it was somehow attached to the bone.

Short of that is just figuring out what they can or cannot eat with their new "disability".

So sorry it wasn't better news. I am still hoping his beak has a chance! Fingers crossed!
