I couldn't wait to see Puff this morning to assess his improvements(I was hoping!)

he is standing up much straighter than yesterday, and seems much more perky.
now for the good part....all the swelling under his eyes has now gone!!!
the redness has subsided more than 50%
he's eaten some millet which I sprinkled with vitamins.

even the crusties around his cere seem to have diminished, I'm not sure if I'm seeing this correctly or it's just my eyes playing tricks on me:rolleyes:

here is a before and after picture (yesterday's pic, and this morning)

I couldn't find my glasses this morning to get a good look at him.
so I thought I'd let you tell me what u think!
his poop is better as well, yesterday it was black & white, today, it's green and white.
he is still quiet, and I can't wait to remove the crusties from his cere.

I'm debating on doing it today to see if I can possibly remove some of them, or a wait a day or two.
I want him to regain his strength before I start handling him, which will no doubt stress & tire him out again.

what do you think?

I removed the scalies from his cere with a wet q-tip, they came off rather easily.:D
and there is no more redness around his eyes, yay!
now it's just red above his cere, but should dissipate over time.
I cleaned his nostrils as best I could without stressing him out too much:eek:

here is a pic of his clean nose, ha ha, sorry the picture is not that good, he kept moving constantly!!!!

I think he is a 'SHE'

Good job!!!!! It's a shame that the pet shop doesn't know any better. We take one look and we know what's wrong with them. At least you were there to save Puff!

Mikey, they drive me nuts in there! I always go check on their birds, and if anything is wrong with them or they don't look right, I let them know, but it usually falls on deaf ears:54::54:

now if she would just stop clicking when she breaths....any suggestions???????

Since you just started the treatment since yesterday, give her time to rid them all first then take her in the shower while you have the hot water going as the steam will help a bit.

Ivermectin works 100% within 24 hours, it will kill all the adults, but not anything that has been laid. that is why you repeat the treatment 7-10 days later.
she must have some residual unhatched mites in there to still be 'clicking'.
It could also be her nasal infection(but I'm guessing on that one), but the Bayril seems to be kicking that quite well what ever that issue was.

Clicking in a bird makes my skin crawl, it makes a bird suffer incredibly while they are trying to get air into their lungs and trachea. they die a slow suffering meaningless death.
this is why I am impatient, I am hoping I caught this in time!

Thanks for explaining. I have never dealt with this and yet it is something every Budgie owner should be aware of. Never heard the "clicking" either.
Do you get the Baytril from the same place as the Ivermectin?

you can get Baytril on line(Baytril is actually made by Bayer) and is used for human infections, but is one of the primary effective antibiotics generally given to birds. It's comparative to amoxacillan(sp?) I typically get Baytril from the vets, but I had some left over from Num Num, so I cut the dosage in half.
One more important thing to do with air sac mites. after two treatments, ALWAYS give one more treatment 10 days after, in case anything was missed.
repeat treatment twice per year.
Unfortunately I have had to deal with red, air, feather, and now scaly mites, guess you could say I've had rotten luck, but at least I know what to look for and how to treat them:eek:

Puffs seems really good this morning, I stood there looking at her, and I did NOT hear any clicking. sometimes it takes a while for that to happen so I will have to wait and see how the day goes....a pretty good start to a crazy crazy morning.

Clicking makes me nervous. Zoey began to click as she got sick. It just seems so painful, and is such a heartbreaking noise. She had a very bad respiratory infection and was in bad health in general. I miss her so much. :(

Hopefully, since you were able to help Puff quickly, the little one will be able to beat his infections. I have my fingers crossed for no more clicking! Stay strong little Puff!
