Not weird at all. I have five birds and none of them have a leg band. Many breeders simply don't bother with them, especially hobby breeders.

My bird doesn't have one either. It's used to distinguish one bird from another, and to link the bird to it's owner if it is lost. In some states in the US, with some parrots such as the Quaker Parrot, it is illegal for the bird to not have a leg band. Although
you need not worry about a cockatiel.

Yup, not weird at all. Especially with cockatiels :)

Kenji doesn't have a leg band. Rosie had open bands when adopted her, but I had the vet remove them. Apart from identification leg bands tend to do more bad than good.

It's good to know about alternatives for people who reads the post and are forced by law to have a bracelet. If the bird get's injured or something else by a wrist band it is possible for a vet to operate a id chip into the bird making it a cyborg bird.

My three birds do not have leg bands either. So it's definitely not uncommon.

Some people prefer the bands as a form of IDENTIFICATION if the bird happens to escape.

If you are uncomfortable with your birds being unbanded some avian vets offer to band birds.

My Cockatiel did have the metal band, but my vet removed it. He said it wasn't necessary.

I've cared for a total of 8 cockatiels. None of them had bands. I've had several budgies, and only one or two had bands. The grass parakeets and lovie didn't have bands. Of the three conures I've cared for (and still have two), only one has a band.

Not weird at all. :)

Lector, yes, parrots can be microchipped! Although many vets may not microchip a bird under 100 grams. It's one thing to insert something the size of a grain of rice into a large macaw, it's another to insert that same piece into a tiny bird.

Fae, open bands are even more dangerous than closed bands. NOT recommended to band adult birds if they don't already have a band.

I'm not a fan of leg bands! Most of my birds don't have a leg band and I prefer to keep it that way....
