I woke up to this this morning!!:eek:eek:

Tundra my female cockatiel has been in heat but not laying eggs.
she is one of my pets and not a breeder.
Around 3 years of age, and soooooooo very very sweet....she is my favourite!!

she's currently in with Angus, my other female, but Angus has no issues laying eggs.

Tundra is slightly puffy and seems to be in some discomfort, she keeps reaching behind to her vent area, and twice has squawked like something hurts.
she has eaten this morning.

I checked her vent area but has no blood, and there is NO egg in her either.

Being a breeder I have never come across this, I have no idea if this happens from time to time or if it's serious....I'm guess serious, pooping blood is not the best sign.

WHY DOES TODAY HAVE TO BE SUNDAY, AND NOT MONDAY!!!????

I'm going to send Evan my vet, these photo's in hopes he sees them at home.

I know Mayden, I would think that as well, but she has absolutely NO buldge in near her vent, which makes me believe there is no egg.

she's been 'pretending' to lay for 2 years, but has NEVER laid one egg.

Wendy- she has not gone again....waiting to see what comes out.

I've sent an e-mail to Evan in hopes he replies.

tundra is currently perching(which is good!)under a heat lamp, but is a tad bit fluffy.....I've held her twice this morning, while she happily nibbles on my gold chain.

no, so I gave her some good food, Sarah has just put it in her cage so we'll see.
If she hasn't eaten by early this afternoon, I'll hand feed her, she loves that stuff!

she's not bad, but something is obviously not right.

Yikes, seeing that poop must have been so scary for you!
Of course, I am no expert by any standard but could it be that there WAS an egg that somehow broke inside her and the poop was the result of that happening?
How is she now?
Sending lots of good thoughts!

ok, this is what came out of her.

a very soft unformed bloody egg.

I had to run out for a bit, when I came home *this* was on the bottom of the cage, and she was perched but sleeping with her head tucked.
when I came home she perked right up and wanted out....

she was VERY VERY LUCKY, she passed this, but now I am concerned on what's going on inside her, I hope nothing was left in there.

I feed my birds with all kinds of veggies, supplement with calcium powder right onto their food, they have cuttle bone in their cages.
Calcium is the # one factor of importance with me and my birds....so I guess I'll be getting some blood work done to see what else may be going on.

I'll be seeing Evan tomorrow.

@Mayden we were both right!

I'm glad she passed it!!! And I'm even happier she's going to see Evan tomorrow.

Hopefully she won't want to lay an entire clutch.

I'm glad she passed it, but I'd be worried about potential shell being stuck in there and hurting her again...

Glad you're seeing the vet tomorrow.

The first thing that came to mind was from the egg. Did her inside pop out from her cloaca??? If it does you must push it back in! Be watchful of her. She should be taken off from breeding cause if all that happened to her it would kill her next time.
