I've been doing this for a very very long time but in the recent years I've lost a few to unknown symptoms but I figured it was the parents that was doing a bad job as it is always their babies I lose. But after losing EggBert, one of their babies, I found out what killed him, he ate wood chips(bedding) that I've been using for many many years but never had this happen until the babies from this very pair that eats them exclusively. I don't know how is this pair's babies different but they would eat crap they shouldn't eat. In the picture you'll see I started laying newspaper down as I remember how much I don't like using paper towels after trying it out again for almost a week and I wasn't liking it. I just changed the newspaper not very long before this picture and they already made a mess. I also caught EggBert's Albino sister eating junk that I had to flush out of her crop on a daily basis, she's been eating dried poo. As I can't watch them 24/7 so I can't always be there to clean the newspaper constantly as I change it constantly. But she finds a way to eat them. Thanks to little EggBert that solved the mystery as poo is easier to flush out then wood chips. I've been flushing her crops daily ever since she was younger, she does it when the crop is almost empty. She's been gaining weight consistently and healthy, just need her crop flushed out daily. I can't wait until she's old enough to move into a cage with a grate where she can't reach those stuffs....Crazy babies....

There's 6 chicks in here and two more moving in tomorrow as the older ones are about to move into a cage in about another week. Then once everyone moves into a cage, time to disinfect the tank completely....Cleaning after them never ends.....

Aw! The white one! How sweet! They're so adorable at this age, aren't they? I hope you figure out a way to stop them eating weird stuff, Mikey. That must be an awful worry for you. I wonder whether shredded paper might work for their bedding? That way, the poo and other awful stuff could fall to the bottom and they'd have a harder time finding it?

We're raising (well, my wife's doing the hard work feeding) 3 'tiel babies, with the other 3 from clutch in 10 day's time. We just use kitchen paper in the bottom of a fishtank, changed frequently (they're real poo machines at that age :)).

NAAAWWW!!!! Look at those pretty babies!!!!! :)

I SO not envy you. As cute and as sweet as they are, the work is never-ending. And yeah, "little poop machines" is an understatement, lol.

That is so odd that some like to "eat" such odd things. :32:

I'll take one thank you...ha ha

have you tried timothy hay?....it's safe, they can eat it without an issues, and would hide their poop.

although, hopefully they don't eat the hay that has the poop on it, then you'd be back to square one....it's worth a try.

Betrisher, I really wish they would stop eating junk. Mainly the white one right now. I flushed out bunch of bird poo out of the crop this morning....

crimson, I don't want to do timothy hay because I clean it out so often and she would still try to eat the poo off of it or the hay. At their age I don't want them eating stuffs like that even though they can be eaten since I'm flushing her crops several times per day.

Thanks everyone! The last two babies are in the tank now....crying babies....lol

Yes they're mini poop machines right now....I don't like to do big clutches anymore but this time it happened this way cause both pairs went at it at the same time. I'm NOT looking forward to fledging time when I have them all flying towards me begging for food.....:eek::eek::eek:

They are just adorable and look like a LOT of work. Do they make a lot of noise? do they beg like wild birds outside, fluttering their wings and opening their mouths? I've never seen baby parrots before with my own eyes, only pictures and videos. But it looks like you will be busy for a while lol
