Hi when I was 11 years old I begged my parents to let me have a budgie. Finally they said yes reluctantly. We went to petsmart and I picked out a blue budgie that I liked. I couldn't believe how easy he was to tame. In less than a week he was fairly tame. It wasnt long before he was right at home with us and my parents were shocked at how much fun a parakeet could be. He was amazing. He flew outside one night and we were sure it was the end. Miraculouysy, the next day he was flying around and landed on my mom's head. We couldn't believe it. He was awesome and will never be forgotten. Has anyone else had good luck at petsmart or was I just lucky? Two of my sisters got budgies that never got tame so I just think I must have gotten lucky with my first bird. I would love to hear some stories where you got your parakeet and how it turned out for you.

My first budgie came from Petco when I was 12. He was also a [light] blue budgie and he was a sweet little thing!

My second budgie came from Petsmart, and since she died the next day, I returned her and got another budgie from Petco. I've also gotten a budgie from Pet Supermarket and many rehomes, too!

Some tamed down quickly while others took a while! I came to enjoy watching them interact and fly around more than anything else!

That's slightly over half of my lifetime ago, though! :) I no longer keep budgies, but I still love the feisty little birds!

I've had parrots for years, but I just got my first Budgies 2 Christmases ago. They're such cute little guys, but wow noisy!! :11: I didn't expect that lol.

We got the two males at Petsmart. They both have such individual personalities. One is more easy going and 'fairly' tame, the other will step up finally after a year, but is is still pretty much a "bird's bird" and is wary of humans. I admit I haven't put much work into taming them though.

I usually wouldn't buy at a pet store, but they have been disease tested.
It all started for me when I saw Twigs. His beautiful color really got to me, and I HAD TO have him! My husband went back to the store with me and picked out Pix also. :)

My first parakeet was a dark eyed clear and this was over 30 years ago! I got her a flea market for $5 after begging and begging and begging some more for one. I used to think it was a male but now I'm pretty sure it was a female. She was incredibly tame after about a week. She would anticipate me coming home from school and let herself out of the cage to greet me. She used to love sitting on whatever book I was reading. I loved that bird so much!! She did not like my dad and would land on his head and poop or bite his ears really hard. Sadly when she was about 1 year old she died in a accident with a rotary fan, somehow she managed to land between the bars of the grill. She was still alive when I got to her, I'm sure she was holding on to say goodbye to me. While there will never be another like her I do love my English budgie Gris even though shes a real meany to the other birds and not really all that tame.

My dad brought home my first parakeets. They came in a brown paper bag and were purchased at Clearwater Beach, Florida where it was common practice to capture wild parakeets and sell them.

Years ago (like a decade :11:) I got my daughters each a parakeet/budgie. One was blue :whiteblue:(female) and one was green :greenyellow:(male). The green one was easily tamed and loved being handled and just to be in the middle of whatever we were doing. The blue one, however, did not...lol. She could be handled, if she wanted to be. So, I guess it depends on their personality. I think they can all be "tamed" in time, just depends if they "like" to be the center of attention or if they just want to watch from the sidelines.

Oh, and...[quoteI have empty nest syndrome so I'm filling it with fids][/quote]

I believe this may be why I decided to get back into birds:green::orange:...lol. My youngest son moved out a few months ago. I didn't realize it at the time, but this was brought to my attention by a friend of mine, and I think it is actually the case.

HI Fellow Parrot Lovers! Baby Green Wing Macaw, Loving Departed Yellow-naped Amazon "Poe"
We got our Budgie last year right after we lost our Amazon "Poe", it was a very hard time for my family, my daughter was also in the hospital

After two weeks of everyone moping around, to try and take my three kids minds off the loss I ran out to get a Budgie

I looked at Budgies both at Petsmart and Petco, Petco's looked better
(at the time, No judgement of one or the other store being better)

We decided on a yellow & green male, he was VERY easy to train and Very Sweet

We named him "Ding Dong" :D

The cat has no mousing instincts (but we were always right there) LOL

My daughter Rissa with her Sphynx cat "Ra" and "Ding Dong" the Budgie
(cat looks so happy cause of the Budgie's nails)

The Budgie always tries to go under the comforter with the cat to snuggle, cat always looks EVIL :)
