I came across this bird in the care of the same man I got my baby rescue budgies from - has anyone seen this mutation and do you know what to call it?

I am still hoping to find someone who can help me out with this, I have not had any luck on the internet. Any budgie experts out there?

Well, I'm no budgie expert, but I found a great website.

Budgie Mutation And Color Guide -               Cute Little Birdies Aviary

My best guess is some sort of yellow face clearwing or greywing. There's a color called Rainbow that mixed with greywing might produce it. It's a super beautiful bird. I'm actually planning another budgie in my near future, though I'm going to do my best to hand tame my little Finnella first. I can only hope I can find one so gorgeous.

That is a great link! Thanks! From what I can tell from that web site (so many good pictures!) he may be a clearwing rainbow?

Sadly, both this budgie and the aqua with a yellow head beside him have both passed away, as has a third from this bunch. Fortunately I observed strict quarantine protocol with these birds. The conditions I found them in were deplorable, I took home 10 adults out of the perhaps 150 that he had. I chose based on color, with the full awareness that they would most likely die if I left them, but could die if I brought them home. I wish I had the resources to vet all of them right now, but unfortunately the best I could do for them was get them out of there, give them clean and safe living space, food, and clean water. Seven remain alive, and seem healthy for now. They will be vetted before entering my home. Currently they are in a sheltered and protected area outside. These birds have lived outside their whole lives, and I live in Hawaii. They are out of the sun, and over all in better living quarters (though smaller) than they have ever been before.

Aww So sorry to hear that. At least you gave them a good shot at living when you bought them. Sounds like they were in horrible conditions.

the remaining 7 seem to be fine so I have high hopes for them. Saddly we believe we will most likely be losing one of the chicks tonight, however. This was such a sad situation to see. We feel confusing guilt - guilt for paying for them and thus "funding his habit" and also guilt for only bringing home the ones we did. We wish we could rescue them all.
