She is my lost Girl! I let her fly out an open door in a friends house, when the dog gave her a fright. Almost a year after getting her.
When I adopted her at the age of 6mths, she was in a poor state.
She could not fly and due to her deformed feet walked on her knees.
her toe nails were grown so badly, (almost closed hooks) she used to get caught on things and scream as she struggled to escape.
It took months of trimming, every few weeks to cut them back very slowly, a small amount at a time.
She was very timid and I put this down to the other Fids picking on her in the overcrowded cage she was in.
She would not come out of the cage by herself, so I used to force her out every morning, knowing she would have to fly to get back to the food. Sounds mean, but it worked.
Just before I lost her, she stood up on her deformed feet and walked. This to me was a miracle.
Below is a picture showing how she used to walk around, bum on the ground.
In fact one time she poohed herself and it blocked her pooh tube, lucky I had noticed she was having trouble, so had a good look and cleaned her dried pooh off.
I built platforms for her to sit on, as sometimes she would fall off a perch, as she could not grip well.

This is after a lot of trimming, As in the early days there was no way I could hold her like this for a picture.

She was my darling, and I was totally gutted over my stupidity put her at risk. I wish I knew she was alive and well.
She was a little trouper, and she came so far in that 12mths.

:( This is shattering, I am so sorry. Poor Tweety and poor you. You did such a great job getting her well again. She would have no life If you hadn't helped her. I do hope she is okay. Try not to blame yourself, you were a great guardian to Tweety.

Is there any chance she could still be in the area? Maybe leave her cage or a cage with food in it at the house she escaped from. My prayers are with you.

Hey sorry you guys I lost her a year ago nearly. But thank you, it still hurts. You can never replace one so close.
I spent a lot of time and money trying to find her. I can only hope that somone found her and is taking good care of her.
It was because of her that I found my way to the bird rescue I now spend a lot of my free time helping. And I now run the Found Fids listings.

Please do not give up searching for Tweety. She is white and should stand out in the trees. There are lots of things you can do including notifying the children in your area of her loss with a photo and even a small reward. XXXXXX my fingers are crossed for good luck.

The joys of now being the one who is keeping track of all the pet Fids coming into our rescue for the Auckland area, means I will know if she ever turns up in the wild.
You are right I will never give up hope.
I am in contact with Kim who runs Pets On The Net, NZ data base for lost and found pets. And we are working on a detailed advice sheet for anybody who has lost a pet. Showing what they need to do.
I put out close to 500 Fliers with colour pic of Tweety.
I covered Local vets, schools, and shops. Bus stops and Telegraph poles.
Walked the streets and did Flier drops to all local houses. Phoned all Rescues in Auckland.
I did not get any Radio stations to advertise. This may of been a mistake.
But did put adds on Pets On The Net and Trade Me.
It was due to Tweetys escape that I now help at the rescue.
