Today we welcomed home the newest (and oldest) member of our flock :)

Meet Bandit, a 7 year old male cockatiel; he comes from a wonderful home, where he was very well taken care of and much loved.

I am honored to have been chosen to take care of him, and he's such a sweet boy.

On the way home he was completely SILENT. Once we parked at home he started peeping, and once he heard the budgies inside he perked right up.

I still need to get more toys made and set up for him, but he's settling in very nicely.

He let my toddler feed him millet- which he was VERY excited about feeding the birdy

When I fed him millet, he'd nibble on my fingers and then when he wanted more -very gentle little nibbles

I left his door open to see if he would come out...and he did- and sang us a song!

Then he flew over to me and hung out on my shoulder for a while- looks like I have a new shoulder buddy [emoji41]

I was able to get him back in his cage for dinner without a problem- I got him to step on his swing from my shoulder then to my surprise he stepped up on my hand and in he went!

He's such a little sweetheart, but it will take some time and getting to know each other before he allows scritches...but for being in a new home, he's done leaps and bounds of progress for the few hours he's been here. [emoji41]

Ooh Shire, Bandit is my FAVORITE cockatiel color :)! I think the whiteface gray males are quite stunning!

Congratulations, he scored with a great new home. Sounds like a nice bird... I can't wait to see how his personality opens up with you.

He's such a sweet little cutie....they're easy to fall in love with!

What does chili think??

Lol.

Apparently a demon bird has come to surely suck out her soul [emoji57] she's been hiding up at the tippy top of her highest branch

{I would like to add the following in case a newbie is reading this- normally a new bird coming in to your home should be quarantined for at least 30 days, along with a vet visit to rule out illnesses. However, Bandit comes from a person I know. I know he's healthy and the flock he came from is healthy; I am comfortable with not doing a QT.}

Does he speak much? My Eddie whistles and "talks" (he does a fantastic electric drill) but he's in with somebody else.

LOVE the Grey Whiteface tiels Shirre! I had 1 once named Andy who sang the Andy Griffith tune, lol he'd whistle the song partway and get stuck so would repeat the same line over and over until someone started whistling the rest of it then he'd continue. Miss that little guy! I think the whiteface mutation looks so elegant................. Congratulations on your new addition!

My weiros are real little chatty cathies. It'll be interesting to see whether Bandit is the same. That song may be the start of the Bandit concert series. :D

Aaawwww! Isn't it just so much fun when you get the chance to adopt the truly pre-loved ones? They are a special and rare kind of addition :)

:D What a BEAUTIFUL addition to your family, Shirre! I have zero doubt that Bandit has already made himself at home!

And how nice it was to read that Sam got to do the grand tour with his new BFF. :D SWEET!!
