I have two parakeets one blue and one green. I had them for 2 years and they have been doing good. They get along very well and are obedient. I am not home a lot due to school and other activities so I don't spend that much time with them. I keep them well fed and put them by a window to see natural sunlight. They don't come out of their cages because my parents don't like it and they are too afraid to. Recently, about a month or two ago, the blue parakeet started attacking the green one. At first I thought it was something small but it got worse so I bought a new cage and separated them. I put the cages next to each other so they can still talk and see each other. Now the blue one has went crazy. It started to attack his ladder perch and fly crazy around the cage. It started to bite people which he had never done so in the past except when I first got him. So I went online and did some searching and it said something about having mirrors. I then remembered I got him a toy mirror which shows three reflections and is about his size. I'm worried about him and I don't know what to do. Right now he is calmer. I put on some music and I am sitting next to him right now. :whiteblue:

Definitely take out the mirror.no good comes from those things, and can cause behavioral problems. It's courtship/breeding season for many birds due to the longer days, and he may have viewed that "bird" in the mirror as a threat. After the mirror goes, if they seem to calm down and get back to normal, see if they can be housed together again. Since they never get out of their cages it would be more beneficial to them if they get along and are able to play together. But you might want to reconsider allowing them out..if only in your room. Keeping a parrot, however small, confined for the rest of its life is not a very good life. Good luck.

Hello Vanessa, Welcome to the forum!

Budgies can get obsessive over mirrors, I would remove the toy if you haven't already, and provide them with chewable toys instead. Their behavior could also be from spending too much time in their cages. Would it be possible to let them come out in your bedroom on a daily basis? Some time out of their cage and more interaction with you would probably improve their attitudes. Good luck.

What are their names? We would love to see photos.

I got two parakeets back in Sept and had all but given up on ever taming them. Well..I moved them into my room and decided to leave the cage door open. Four days later they came out. I was so excited...I never thought it would happen! Well my husband and I spent about 25 bucks on building an amazing play gym for them out of 1/2" pic pipe wrapped in Conan so they can grip it. They love it and come all the time now. Couldn't u put them in your room and let them out when u are home? They are much happier bird now..I can attest to that. Only problem is that now they wanna mess with my cockatiel :):blue2::whiteblue::yellow2::yellow1::grey:
