Every morning that I wake up, I am so grateful and happy for the joy and happiness my little man brings me with his sunny face and rosy cheeks. I haven't been on for a while because I have been so busy. Kiko and I have become slightly closer, and now he seeks my attention by walking across the bed to hang out with me.

Here are a few recent pics I took a few days ago.

My tiel is starting to come to me on his own too. He landed on my head yesterday and today he flew over beside me then climbed up on my shoulder.

Kiko is so cute! Glad he's warming up to you:) Just playing with them (and their toys) is an excellent way to bond. Birds really enjoy that!

That's great, gracebowen!

Thanks guys!
I normally don't post update threads, but I decided to give it a try.
I have actually had him for two years since the 6th of July.
Time flies so quickly!

So today I weighed Kiko and hee weighs 79 grams, and although he looks fine, maybe he should be a little bigger?
I heard anywhere from 70 to 110 or so, grams. What is everyone's opinion in this? How much does your Cockatiels weigh, and are they muscly and thick boned, or short statured and 'small' boned?
It's been a while since I last weighed him, and it was close to the weight he is now.

I'm not sure on that, but I'm also curious to hear some replies on Cockatiel weights. I've read more or less 90-ish is "average" but as with any species there is a pretty good range I'm sure.

Supposedly, the 'ideal' range is 90-110. But several things should be taken into consideration - obviously, how much they eat and what their diet consists of is a contributing factor - but also activity. An active bird is not gonna weigh as much as an inactive bird who eats the same diet and amount.

I would go based more on how much he eats and how his droppings look. If he is eating regularly and his droppings are normal then I wouldn't worry. Cockatiels can also vary in size. Some are bigger than average and some are smaller.

Kiko is pretty inactive, his poops are perfectly fine, and he eats seeds, pellets, and veggies a day. He probably is just a little smaller than average. Also, the weight scale measures .1 ounces...I am buying a better one tomorrow. So he weighs 2.8 ounces, that ended up as 79 grams, probably taking a few.

galah/rose breasted cockatoo - merlin,
timneh african grey - jasper,
pied cockatiel - picasso,
blue & gold macaw - mia
Picasso weighs only 84 grams. He's fully flighted and not at all a perch potato. I'm assuming that's why he's on the smaller side. Luna is small for a green cheek conure as well. I think I just have very active birds. Both are healthy.

It sounds like you're doing everything right. As long as your vet says he's healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. Kiko's a real cutie. :)

I am not sure how old he is, but I just wanted to add a few more pictures. I have had him for three years, and I enjoy him every single day.<3 None of these photos are truly recent, though.
