See siggie :)
Today it was clean out cage time and I took the chanc to get some pics of my set up and birds.
Seed dish with two cuttlefish bone. The seed dish is removed at 1 o'clock then the veggies and fruits are put in. They are then put in together at about 4 o'clock. This works for me because otherwise Marigold ( a little overweight) just gorges herself at the seed dish.

Some toys. ( All sterilized )
014-4.jpg

015-3.jpg

They enjoy the gum leaves but eat them in about 4 seconds flat!
016-1.jpg

Natural perching- all different sizes and shapes.
017-2.jpg

018-2.jpg

I use newspaper.
019-2.jpg

The whole cage. It has a plastic sheet over it to keep the draughts out. The box next to it is my supply container.
020-2.jpg

The budgies get free flight time indoors while I do the cage. Just before I finish I pack them up in the travel cage. Here they are waiting for me to finish.
021-1.jpg

Before they are let loose in their home, I do a general healh check, eyes, vent, weight, crop, beak, cere ect.
That was my set up. I'll post my budgie pics now.:p

Worming them? Am I correct in saying you are de-worming them? :22:

That worming stuff if a preventive treatment, they are supposed to have it every three months. Cass, I have thought about switching their diet to pellets but I can't seem to find any ( Not allowed in pet store ). That article doesn't really convince me to buy pellets as he says a well balanced seed diet is better than a pellet diet. I will get more pics for you guys!

Worm preventitive? never heard of it, gotta look into that, everything I've seen here is for de-worming treatment......

Ratzy, those are great pics! Your budgies are adorable, gotta love those little eyes.

I also want to comment that you're taking excellent care of them. I like the idea of taking the seed cup and refilling it with veggies at 1:00; it gives the birds a really healthy balance. Keep up the good work!

I think it would be the same stuff as your de-worming treatment. It doesn't stay in the system so if your bird is exposed to worm eggs they will still get them. It's common practice here in Oz to worm every 3 months which usually keeps on top of things.

Great job cleaning. How often do you do super cleans like that?

I'd seriously consider putting them on pellets. You're able to order them. Here's where I order mine, i'm quiet happy with them and so is Peeps ;) Drsfostersmith.com. Pretty good prices to, I was able to get 10 lbs of pellets for 25$ and it lasts Peeps a whole year! (well that will cut down now with the new parrot. ;)

We don't have the same availability to pellets here in Australia.

BTW great photos Ratzy. Were you banned from the pet shop by them or your parents??

Ahh ok, thought there might be something new out there, I've always been told not to use de-wormers as a preventative only as a treatment for when they actually have worms.....

I don't worm anything unless they are present - I have a chemical phobia!! :11: It is commonly done here though

The medicine is actually a preventive treatment apparently. I asked the lady selling it a load of questions-whether it was a preventive, if it worked as a de wormer, how to give it to them and all of that. I clean it like that 1-3 times a week, so they get lots of free flight time indoors. I was banned by my parents but I have a feeling if I try to advise them again they will ban me. I can't really get a hold of pellets, I am 12 so I don't get much income and the money I do get goes into my emergancy vet bill tin.

I don't know that I would totally believe what someone that sells you something says, maybe next time while at the vet you could ask his/her advise on whether to use a de-wormer for prevention, my board certified avian vet says no to that practice, but I'm sure there are other vets that believe in it, anyway I didn't mean to hijack your thread, your birds look great!, keep up the good work :)

No, I didn't completely trust what she said. It is a common practice here so no harm done. I got the cage at a local store last year. It's great! I'm saving up for another cage right now. I'm just about to go get some more pics now! Went koala spotting for about an hour today and saw 11!
